Nine Inch Nails Members Share Thoughts on Their 2020 Rock Hall Induction

The members of Nine Inch Nails, in separate statements on the band’s website, shared what their 2020 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction means to each of them, although singer Trent Reznor did not participate in the group endeavor. Danny Lohner, who plays guitar, bass, and keyboards for the band live, stated “In 1993, while still in my early 20’s, I joined my favorite band – Nine Inch Nails. Now it’s 2020, I’m just a few months shy of 50 years old, and I’ve been given the surreal honor of joining Trent and the boys in their induction into the RnR Hall Of Fame. All these years later, I still can’t believe my luck….” The band’s Atticus Ross, in a lengthy statement, said in part that, “Trent remains the musician I most admire. Year after year we’ve toiled, unraveling life and music, whe...

Six Additional Nine Inch Nails Members to Be Inducted Into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

While there’s no Nine Inch Nails without founder and creative visionary Trent Reznor, he’s had a stellar, if revolving supporting cast, and six of those musicians — Atticus Ross, Robin Finck, Chris Vrenna, Danny Lohner, Ilan Rubin and Alessandro Cortini — will be honored at NIN’s 2020 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, SPIN has confirmed. They’ll all participate in the induction proceedings, to be broadcast on Nov. 7 during an HBO and HBO Max special. The Rock Hall doesn’t always include bandmembers who have left a band, or who were not part of a group’s most influential period, and it’s unclear how the decision was made to induct these NIN musicians. Filter’s Richard Patrick, who started his career with NIN, will not be inducted, nor will Grammy-nominated keyboardis...

The 25 Best Soundtrack Albums of the 1990s

In the 1980s, music and film collided for cross-promotional blockbusters both transcendent (Purple Rain) and transcendently cheesy (Footloose). In the ‘90s, soundtracks continued to sell in the millions, capturing cultural moments like the Seattle grunge of Singles or the Britpop and electronica of Trainspotting. Auteurs like Quentin Tarantino and Wes Anderson reached deep into their record collections to set the mood while movies like Above the Rim and Menace II Society pioneered the concept of soundtracks as hip-hop mixtapes. A great soundtrack can propel an unsuccessful single, like Seal’s “Kiss From A Rose,” to the top of the charts, or revive a decades-old hit, like Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody.” It can also push a cult singer-songwriter like Elliott Smith or Aimee Mann to an Oscar perf...
