“It’s not safe to host concerts right now at full capacity and it won’t be until we get through COVID-19,” he tells Billboard. And yet, about a half-dozen venues in town are moving forward with performances and parties on Super Bowl weekend, including a Catholic Church hosting a tailgating party featuring Flo Rida. Hotel and club WTR Grill + Pool is hosting the biggest events, with a Thursday show by Torey Lanez, Friday show by Steve Aoki and Saturday show with Migos and Diplo playing with 50 Cent, followed by the Qvesoir nightclub in the town’s Ybor City district, which is hosting shows by Kodak Black and Lil Baby, and then the Ritz, which is planning a big Super Bowl bash hosted by Gucci Mane. The Forum in Los Angeles to Serve as COVID-19 Vaccination Site

The owners of the Forum in Los Angeles are making good use of the arena in the absence of live music and sports. L.A. County has announced that the 18,000-capacity venue, located in Inglewood, will serve as a COVID-19 vaccination site for those eligible, beginning on Tuesday (Jan. 19). The facility will also continue serving as a testing site for coronavirus. “There’s a great need for vaccination everywhere but based on infection impact and things like that, it’s in a location that serves an area that has a great need,” Kevin McGowan, director of L.A. County’s Office of Emergency Management, told the Los Angeles Times. “In addition to it, it’s a large facility that has the ability to expand and contract based on supply and demand.” You Deserve to Make Money Even When you are looking for Da...

Ignoring Ban, Trump Supporters Traveled by the Busload to D.C. Rally With Help of Concert App

For some hardcore Trump supporters like Ben Philips, of Bloomburg, Pennsylvania, the income earned through the site augments an existing pro-MAGA business. Philips is the owner of the Trumparoo toy company, which makes stuffed kangaroo toys with a Trump-like tuft of orange hair that he sells to passengers in the van caravans he organizes on Eventbrite, charging $25 per person. (Eventbrite typically charges $.79 per ticket sold plus 4.5% fee for ticket sales on its platform.) On Jan. 6 Philips died on the steps of Capitol Hill from a sudden stroke, hours after he dropped off a van full of Trump supporters he met on the site at the presidential rally, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. Passengers learned of Philips’ death when he didn’t return to the van. After multiple calls to his cel...

Save Our Stages Grants Aren’t Open Yet, But Here’s How Venues Can Get Ready

Who is eligible? The SOS Act was initially intended to solely support independent music venues when it was introduced in the summer of 2020. By the time it passed passed as part of the stimulus package in December, the now-called Shuttered Venue Operators (SVO) Grant program includes $15 billion for live performance venue operators and promoters, performing arts organizations, theatrical producers, talent representatives, motion-picture theatre operators and non-profit museums. Subsidiaries of these organizations can also be eligible. Businesses that fall under those categories must have been fully operational as of Feb. 29, 2020 and planning to continue operations in the future. In order to be eligible for the grant, the entities must be able to show at least 25% gross revenue loss in any...

Beyond Save Our Stages: NIVA Director Details Next Steps for Venue Owners

“One of the components of Save Our Stages Act is that should this continue longer than any of us want it to continue — which it already has — but should there be a need for additional funds, it’s part of the language of this program,” said Rev. Moose on the panel, adding that the act takes into account that more funding could be necessary depending on the duration of the pandemic. Rev. Moose continued that while he is not a “political soothsayer,” he does believe the bipartisan appeal of the SOS Act could mean an easier and more efficient path to additional funding if venues are forced to keep their doors shuttered for longer than expected. “I don’t know what the future is going to bring, but I would hope that if there is a need for additional COVID funding, that the government...
