KAABOO Texas Principals Sued by Dallas Millionaire at Center of Sexual Assault Scandal

KAABOO Texas is the third event in the KAABOO series — the original KAABOO was launched in 2015 in Del Mar, California, and an offshoot event was held on the Cayman Islands in February 2019. The Del Mar festival was sold at the end of 2019 to Virgin Produced and has been postponed the last two years due to COVID-19. While the future of the Cayman Islands event is unclear, KAABOO Texas’ losses make a return unlikely. “In addition to the negligible attendance, KAABOO Texas grossly underestimated its financial losses in its first and only year by $8 million, vastly eclipsing the original investment projections for the initial three-year period,” Stuhlman wrote. An investor update obtained last year by Billboard showed that the event lost a total of $19 million in its f...

My First Fest Back: Lollapalooza Founder Perry Farrell on ‘The Eye of the Hurricane’

I think that this moment in time is extremely important in history as the country is coming back, getting through a pandemic. We’re right on the other side of it, [but] we’re still in it and it might be another year before we’re fully away from it. It depends on our actions. And I think there was a great divide that was caused by that last president, and other people around the world, and we’re all recovering from that but we’re gaining our strength and we are mighty — and we’re going to pull this off. We’re in a very tough situation, but I love the fact that we’re actually in the eye of the hurricane and we did the right thing — and when I say we, I don’t just mean Lollapalooza. I mean the mayor, I mean the city of Chicago. We all figured it out together, “Hey, we can use this...

Ricardo Montaner Returns to Touring in 2022: ‘I’m Incomplete Without the Applauds of My Fans’

“The virtual concerts are incredible. They have an immeasurable scope, phenomenal,” Montaner tells Billboard. “But nothing compares to the energy of seeing an audience face-to-face.” Montaner, behind some of Latin pop’s biggest hits — such as “Tan Enamorados,” “Me Va a Extrañar” and “Dejame Llorar” — announces his 2022 Montaner U.S. Tour exclusively on Billboard today (July 31). Presented by Loud and Live, the tour will kick off on January 21 at Miami’s FTX Arena (formerly American Airlines Arena) and wrap up on February 18 at Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater. The Montaner Tour will also make pit stops in Atlanta, Houston and New York, to name a few cities. “There will be many surprises and spontaneous elements on this tour,” he assures. Most importantly, he will sing all of his ...

Brandi Carlile to Livestream ‘Echoes Through the Canyon’ Concert on Veeps

“Back in March, Brandi delivered one of the very first ever hybrid experiences, playing to an intimate crowd at the Ryman while an arena-sized audience watched the livestream at home. She’s been a constant innovator and the “Echoes Through The Canyon” show is no exception, giving fans access to an incredible amphitheatre experience regardless of where they’re located,” Joel Madden said in a statement. “We’re constantly impressed with what Brandi has created on the platform — for her fans, for her crew, and for the other artists that have been inspired to use the platform to bring people together.”  The performance comes in advance of the six-time Grammy-winning singer, songwriter, performer, producer and New York Times best-selling author’s ne...

Liz Phair Exits Summer Tour With Alanis Morissette & Garbage

As Phair shared, Cat Power is joining the lineup for the U.S. leg of the trek, which kicks off on Aug. 12 in Austin and runs through early October. Morissette is celebrating the delayed 25th anniversary of 1995’s Jagged Little Pill. The tour was originally scheduled for summer 2020 but postponed due to the pandemic. “When she asked me [to do this tour], it was at a difficult point for me, where I was trying to come back as an artist, and the industry powers that be are like, ‘You’ve already done your thing, we’re focusing on younger artists we can build and then reap the rewards for a long time,'” Phair, who released the album Soberish this year, told Billboard in May. “I found it really hard, harder than I exp...

Eric Clapton Refuses to Play Shows That Require Vaccination Proof

Italian architect and film producer Robin Monotti Graziadei shared Clapton’s announcement on the Telegram messaging app. “Following the PM’s announcement on Monday the 19th of July 2021 I feel honour bound to make an announcement of my own: I wish to say that I will not perform on any stage where there is a discriminated audience present,” the message read, which was signed off by Eric Clapton. “Unless there is provision made for all people to attend, I reserve the right to cancel the show.” The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer made his thoughts about COVID loud and clear last year with his anti-lockdown track “Stand and Deliver” with Van Morrison, which he wrote in an earlier Telegram message is “when I found my voice, and eve...

How Splendour’s Team Created a Pandemic-Proof Festival

The pandemic crushed the best-laid plans for Splendour in the Grass last year, and, with more than half Australia’s population currently under lockdown, a late July 2021 show was a non-starter. So organizers hatched a bold plan. Splendour XR’s architecture was drawn up at the dawn of the health crisis. Since then, Splendour co-founder Jessica Ducrou and her teammates have regularly worked 12-plus hours each day, building an immersive, pandemic-proof space. “It has been a huge project,” she tells Billboard. “In many ways, it’s been more challenging than a real-life festival. I haven’t worked as hard ever on a project.” The hard work shows. On July 24 and 25, more than 50 international and local acts perform across stages in seven precincts, including headliners Khalid and ...

Farm Aid to Return Live in September With Willie Nelson & More: ‘We Need Each Other’

Farm Aid’s mission is to build a strong, family-farm-centered system of agriculture in America. Since 1985, with the support of artists who contribute their performances, the organization has raised more than $60 million to support programs that help family farmers thrive and expand the markets for their food. “Live performances by artists who are passionate about agriculture and good food are the deep roots that sustain Farm Aid’s year-round work for family farmers,” says Farm Aid executive director Carolyn Mugar. More than a concert, the Farm Aid festival is an annual gathering place for activists involved in the Good Food Movement and related concerns with the environment and social justice. Attendees in Hartford will have access to Homegrown Concessions, Farm Aid’s trademarked menu of ...

Live Nation’s Theresa Velasquez Identified as Victim of Florida Condo Collapse

Velasquez was a Los Angeles-based executive for the Live Nation event promotion company. She had flown into Miami to visit her parents at the Surfside condo, both of whom also died in the collapse. “Theresa was an impassioned leader at Live Nation, who elevated every project she was part of, at the same time breaking down barriers for women, and the LGBTQIA+ community,” the company said in a statement. “We will always remember and honor the impact she made, and will miss her dearly.” The bodies of Julio and Angela Velasquez were recovered and identified earlier. The recovery effort at the condo site is slowly winding down, with perhaps one more body still buried in the rubble. Work is now shifting toward determining what caused the oceanfront condo to come down. A judge is also considering...

4 Faster Horses Festivalgoers Found Dead During Michigan Country Concert

“This tragic incident is being investigated as a suspected carbon monoxide exposure from a generator located very near the travel trailer,” the sheriff’s office said on Twitter. Separately, state police reported the death of a 30-year-old woman, Melissa Havens of Croswell. The cause and manner was unknown, state police said, although investigators were looking for a suspect. “Detectives want the public to know there is no danger or threats to people attending” the music festival, state police said. The three-day festival is scheduled to conclude Sunday. Its headliners include Luke Combs, Thomas Rhett and Jason Aldean. You Deserve to Make Money Even When you are looking for Dates Online.
