Legendary art-rockers The Residents are celebrating the 50th anniversary of their first performance in 1971 with the new North American “Dog Stab!” tour. The avant-garde ensemble will play tracks from The Third Reich ‘n’ Roll (1976), Duck Stab (1978), and their latest double-disc release, METAL, MEAT & BONE (2020). The tour kicks off in August along the west coast before snaking its way through the Midwest and arriving in New England by the end of the month. The Residents will head south along the east coast and cut through the southwest, closing the square they’ve made around the continent with a pair of shows in their old stomping grounds of San Francisco and Santa Cruz. Margo Price has announced Live From the Other Side, a new audiovisual EP due out July 16th via Loma Vista Recordings. To preview the project, the country singer filmed a Late Show with Stephen Colbert performance featuring a new version of “Hey Child” with Adia Victoria, Allison Russell, Kam Franklin, and Kyshona Armstrong. New music from Strand of Oaks is on the way. In Heaven, the upcoming album from Tim Showalter’s folk rock project, is out October 1st. As a preview, Showalter has shared the album’s breezy first single, “Galacticana,” as well as a slew of US tour dates for fall 2021. In Heaven marks the first Strand of Oaks album since Showalter’s recent relocation to Austin, Texas. It features collaborations with James Iha of the Smashing Pumpkins as well as members of My Morning Jacket. Real Estate have announced a 2021 fall tour of the US. Taking place throughout the month of November, the trek comes in support of their recent Half a Human EP and — by the nature of 2020’s lack of tours — last year’s The Main Thing LP. The tour is bookended by shows in Upstate New York, launching November 3rd in Buffalo and concluding the 19th at Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock. Tkay Maidza hasn’t toured North America since 2017, and so her new announcement has got the continent all “Shook”. The Australian-Zimbabwean rapper has unveiled a 16-date trek taking place in the fall of 2021. Maidza will kick things off in Los Angeles on September 11th, and combined with a September 16th stop in Brooklyn, this represents the tour aperitif. The main course takes place in October and November, with festival appearances including Austin City Limits, Day N Vegas, and All Things Go Festival. Steve Gunn has announced a new album. It’s called Other You and it’s due out August 27th via Matador. To break the news, he’s releasing the two-song single “Other You” / “Reflection” today and has unveiled a string of US tour dates as well. Gunn has released a lot of records over the years, but technically speaking Other You is his sixth studio album and the follow-up to 2019’s The Unseen in Between. It was created with veteran producer Rob Schnapf (Beck, Elliott Smith) and Gunn’s longtime friend and collaborator Justin Tripp. It also features contributions from Julianna Barwick, Mary Lattimore, Jeff Parker, Bridget St. John, Bill MacKay, Ben Bertrand, and others. Bad Religion and Alkaline Trio will finally get the chance to embark on their co-headlining tour after postponing the outing due to the pandemic. The originally scheduled trek was supposed to kick off in March 2020, the same month the concert industry shut down, but will now launch this October. The newly rescheduled 30-date tour kicks off October 15th in Riverside, California, then makes its way east before returning to the West Coast for a final gig on November 26th in Los Angeles.
