The first weekend of Tomorrowland — which took place between July 15 and July 17 in Boom, Belgium — was a barrage of sensory input that included, of course, loads of music from across eras and genres of dance. While the top 20 songs played at the festival provided a mix of fresh tracks and cross-genre classics, there were also ten more current songs — a mix of mostly techno, hard dance and electro pop — that were played more than all the others during the festival this year. It’s impossible for videos to do justice when it comes to Eric Prydz‘s live shows, but they’re simply too incredible to ignore. The Swedish dance music legend performed at Tomorrowland over the weekend, where he brought back his fan-favorite “HOLO” show to send the festival’s attendees into a rabbit hole. Thanks to its mind-bending visuals, the immersive production stole the show and was the unquestioned highlight of the festival’s first day. “Tomorrowland day 1 was stupid fun,” tweeted famed Twitch streamer Jericho, “but listen when I tell you that Prydz holo live was the single best show I have ever seen.” Prydz has long been recognized as one of the electronic music industry’s leading artists in terms...
Hardwell‘s historic return to Tomorrowland has come and gone, but its legacy is only just beginning. His performance was nothing short of breathtaking, an electrifying display of his new musical direction after a four-year hiatus from the electronic dance music festival scene. Tomorrowland was coincidentally the last major fest Hardwell performed at prior to his shocking retirement in 2018. But it was one track that has the Hardwell hive mind buzzing with anticipation as the Dutch icon gears up for his long-awaited comeback album, REBELS NEVER DIE. Towards the end of his set, he dropped an unreleased song, tentatively titled “Revolution,” that has all the intoxicating qualities of a classic Hardwell anthem. Hardwell invited his collaborators, Timmy Trumpet ...

The iconic Tomorrowland music festival is getting an official beach read makeover, thanks to an “epic fantasy trilogy” of book adaptations that are about to hit the global entertainment marketplace. Soon, you’ll be able to experience all the highs and lows of a fantasy rave bae relationship, from the physical and emotional comforts of your own home. Just kidding. But what we do know is that—at least for the first installment—themes of unity, love and nature will be at the forefront, according to literary agent Paul Lucas of Janklow & Nesbit. He’ll reportedly be representing the project’s fiction series rights while United Talent Agency’s Jason Richman will be handling the book-to-screen end. What are the books actually about? Where are the characters...

Having dominated the festival’s stages for the better half of a decade, it’s tough to believe we’re just now hearing Hardwell‘s first-ever “Friendship Mix” for Tomorrowland. And he pulled no punches. Fresh off his return from a four-year hiatus, the iconic Dutch DJ met the moment, dropping a relentless blend of never-before-heard edits and music from his long-awaited comeback album, REBELS NEVER DIE. The mix doesn’t just bleed techno—it hemorrhages it. After coining his new direction “Bigroom Techno” in a recent Reddit AMA, Hardwell twisted a knife into the sound for nearly an hour. Fans can hear it in ebb and flow throughout the mix, like in his thumping rework of Skrillex and J Balvin’s “In Da Getto.” Other...
Tomorrowland‘s unifying principles are being immortalized in tangible form with the advent of the festival’s latest art installation. Tomorrowland’s last in-person edition in 2019 drew over 400,000 dance music fans collectively hailing from over 200 nations around the world. They hope to continue fostering that sense of belonging with the “Stairway to Unity,” a 60-meter pathway composed of over five million mosaic tiles. Cutting the tiles alone was a massive undertaking, explains mosaicist Jean-Christophe Duperron. Due to the manual nature of the process, each tile needed to be cut and adjusted individually, a process that by his estimates collectively represented over 15,000 hours of work. Duperron joined forces with fellow artist Michel Herrera Cuello a...
Charlotte de Witte is set to make Tomorrowland history in 2022. The Belgium-based festival of nearly two decades will for the first time feature a closing set by a woman on the main stage. Fittingly, organizers have selected a hometown hero in de Witte to break that barrier. With the milestone, de Witte, who was named one of EDM.com‘s Best Music Producers of 2020, also becomes the first techno artist to close out Tomorrowland, she said in an Instagram post. She has performed at the festival every year since 2017. de Witte’s adrenalized brand of techno has been a consistent hit with audiences on a global scale, but as the genre has exploded into more mainstream spaces over the last year, she has increasingly become a prominent face of the genre.
