TOKiMONSTA Drops Surprise Album “Oasis Nocturno (Instrumentals)”

After treating her fans this year to not one, but two full length albums, Oasis Nocturno and Oasis Nocturno (Remixed), Los Angeles born and raised artist TOKiMONSTA is closing out 2020 with yet another version of her entire original album, this time titled Oasis Nocturno (Instrumentals).  Released December 4th via Young Arts Records, the project takes all 12 tracks from Oasis Nocturno and strips them down to just their dreamy electronic compositions. The resulting versions add a new dimension to their aurally complex soundscapes, emphasizing the raw, minimalistic beauty made possible purely by instruments and synthesizers.  Tracks that previously hosted vocalists that stand strongly on their own include “Get Me Some” featuring Drew Love and Dumbfoundead, ...

The entertainment industry came to a screeching halt as film, television and music production companies reckoned with the blatant sexism rampant throughout their workplaces—and the dangerous circumstances such inequity can produce. The spotlight is now turning to EDM with the release of a new feature-length documentary called Underplayed. Featuring interviews with women and several male allies working in all aspects of the industry, including sound engineers, producers, journalists and major artists, the film offers timely insights into just how much work is left to be done in electronic music. Of 2019’s top 100 DJs, only five were women, according to the film̵...

New Documentary to Underscore Lack of Female Inclusivity in Dance Music

A new documentary underscoring the blatant lack of female inclusivity in the dance music industry is primed for its world premiere. Sponsored by Bud Light Canada, “Underplayed” will feature a litany of influential women in the electronic dance music scene, including REZZ, NERVO, Anna Lunoe, Alison Wonderland, and TOKiMONSTA, among others, who will wax poetic about their gross underrepresentation in a modern musical zeitgeist they helped to popularize. The film will also explore their insights into how women can champion change in a historically male-dominated industry. “The world of electronic music was created to promote diversity and inclusion,” Bud Light pointed out in a tweet. “Yet, in 2019, only 5 of the world’s top 100 DJs were women.” T...
