In music, there have always been two types of producers: those who play the game, and those who shape it. These latter tastemakers are above the cut when it comes to their sonic instincts, particularly when it comes to partnering up with their peers. Nowadays, TOKiMONSTA is leading the pack, and she’s right on target with her latest collaborator: the always-in-demand Channel Tres. Released July 30th via her own Young Art Records banner, “Naked” sees TOKiMONSTA’s ear for rhythm and groove find its perfect pairing in the woozy warmth of Channel Tres. Featuring a decadent bass line and disco-inspired synthscapes, it brings the energy of an invite-only speakeasy, making you feel trendier simply by pressing play. The mood of “Naked” comes to a head with a tri...

Featuring an array of curated content certain to fight through the fog, the event is made possible by Weedmaps, a platform that connects cannabis consumers with retailers for an Uber Eats-like experience. Since 1975, International Women’s Day has been designated as a global day of recognition for women, taking place annually on March 8th. It also coincides with the American Women’s History Month. But historically, the event dates back to the early 1900s, linked to early feminist and workers’ rights movements. From protest movements to a celebration of women’s suffrage, the date has become a focal point and rallying cry for gender equity worldwide. It’s no secret that we’ve still got a long way to go in ensuring equal opportunities, pay and platforms for women, along with non-binary individuals. This is especially true in the electronic music industry—a 2020 study from the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative found only 21.7% of artists in th...
This year, the team at EDM.com is proud to publish four installments of “Best of 2020” coverage: Industry Leaders, Performances, Music Producers, and Songs. DJing and music production are different. But the difference between the two is like a wallflower—it hides in plain sight, and it is vastly misunderstood. Many artists do both, but not all DJs produce music and not all music producers DJ. Producers create the music that a DJ will then play out to crowds—it’s an important distinction that eludes many. Like a sleek Lamborghini driving from one coast to another, the art of DJing is a stylish means to an end. And music production is the engine that powers it. To publish a “Top DJ” list would be to undermine the originality, ingenuity, and dauntless imagin...
