There’s nothing that blurs the line between frightening and fascinating quite like artificial intelligence. And since artificial intelligence and electronic music are becoming more symbiotic by the day, the staff here at EDM.com wanted to see just how far it could go in a visual sense. So we came up with bizarre descriptions of artists and fed them through A.I. art generators. Some images are photorealistic. Others are fancifully distorted. And the majority of them are flat-out creepy. But we digress. Read on to see our weird and wonderful creations. Not all festivals even try to deliver nine separate stages. In fact, most don’t. But for anyone who was in attendance for San Francisco’s 14th annual Outside Lands festival, it was a variety-lover’s paradise. Some stages were in open fields and others were tucked away in acoustically advantageous pockets in the sprawling hills of Golden Gate Park. One of the most lovable features of Outside Lands is the emulsion of crowds. In addition to offering ample opportunities to discover new music, when you find your vibe you’re probably not too far from finding your tribe. Alive Coverage The importance of this relationship doesn’t escape the leadership at Another Planet Entertainment and SuperFly. In fact, they produce a degree of scale that greatly eclipses other music festivals on the...

Netflix and Casablanca Records have joined forces to provide fans of Squid Game with a package of music inspired by the dystopian hit series. While we’ve received numerous unofficial remixes and bootlegs, the EP, entitled Squid Game (Let’s Play), features four official songs. Alok‘s cut is an amalgamation of two songs from the show: the unmistakable “Pink Soldiers” theme and the eerie tune from the iconic “Red Light, Green Light” scene. TOKiMONSTA has produced a rework of the latter, brilliantly interlacing her own vocals alongside a funky house beat in “The Flower Blooms.” Chart-topping dance music trio Cheat Codes went a different route, creating a tense bass house remix of “Way Back Then.” The EP then concludes ...

Several of dance music’s biggest names are ready to celebrate “hyperbitcoinization” with performances to close out the upcoming Bitcoin 2022 Conference. Since the advent of Miami Music Week and Ultra Music Festival, Miami has always been a cultural hub for dance music. In even more recent times, however, the city has positioned itself as the future crypto capital of the U.S. The effort has been fostered through the leadership of Miami’s Mayor Francis Suarez, who has opted to take his own salary in Bitcoin and has facilitated the creation of Miami’s own dedicated blockchain asset, MiamiCoin. Becoming the home to the annual Bitcoin Conference, the largest celebration of the world’s most popular digital asset has proved a boon to Miami’s rep...

EDM.com proudly publishes four installments of annual year-end coverage: Industry Leaders, Performances, Music Producers, and Songs. DJing and music production are different. But the difference between the two is like a wallflower—it hides in plain sight, and it is vastly misunderstood. To publish a “Top DJ” list would be to undermine the originality, ingenuity, and dauntless imagination of the artists who dedicate their lives to music creation. To honor their fearless creativity and profound dedication to their craft, we’ve recognized 10 of the best electronic music producers of 2021. Laxcity From the feel-good future bass of his Disconnect EP to the textured synths on “melodies from heaven,” Laxcity took over 2021 with his wistfully dreamy takes on the electro...
It’s no secret that the current generation of young music producers is about as creative as they come. From the endless libraries of music available online to the fast-paced evolution of music-making technology, their artistries have been catalyzed by unprecedented access to education and inspiration. The result? Experimental aesthetics, enticingly textured soundscapes and respect for— yet rampant disregard of—genre. The debut album from rising Namibian producer Gina Jeanz proves no different. Released independently on December 3rd, Lucid Theory is equal parts old and new, reigniting well-known sonics and drum machines with multidimensional arrangements and whimsical genre blends. Jeanz also plays with euphonious vocalists and live instrumentation, channeling the comp...
