Tizeti Partners Microsoft to Boost High-Speed Internet in Nigeria
Sourced from Wikimedia Microsoft, the US-founded tech megacorp, and West African solar-based internet service provider Tizeti have announced a new collaboration to boost high-speed internet in Nigeria with the “Airband initiative”. The initiative will see the rollout of high-speed Airband internet infrastructure in Oyo State, in the southwest of Africa’s most populous country. Internet and connectivity speed tester Ookla has released its market analysis for Nigeria, ranking the country’s fastest internet service providers (ISPs). The analysis only takes into account top providers of internet services in the country, ones which account for 3% or more of total test samples in the market in Q2 of 2021 – smaller providers are not tested. All providers are ranked based on their Speed Score, which incorporates a measure of each provider’s download and upload speed to rank network performance (90% of the final Speed Score is attributed to download speed and the remaining 10% to upload speed because online experiences are typically more affected by download speed). Nokia to Expand LTE Network in Nigeria
Nokia and Tizeti have partnered to supply over one million subscribers in Nigeria with LTE technology. The telco will deploy Nokia’s AirScale Base Station TDD-LTE and Fastmile Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) gateways in order to deliver Internet and Virtual Private Network (VPN) services. The solution is expected to enable Tizeti to deliver a more robust, high-speed internet service to subscribers and the flexibility to seamlessly evolve to 5G Fixed Wireless Access when needed.
