Source: Thomas Trutschel / Getty The business world is shifted once again, most especially within the realm of music and content streaming. It was announced today (March 4) that Square has obtained a majority stake of TIDAL and will name Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter to its board of directors. By way of a press release issued by Square, the new deal states that Square will pay a combination of cash and stacks for a total of $297 million, putting the company founded by Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey smack dab in the middle of the streaming wars. TIDAL will still operate as an independent entity according to the announcement. The release goes on to detail that Square is hopping into this space as a means to empower musicians and all connected individuals within that space in order to facilitate payme...
Source: Robert Kamau / Getty Jay-Z is notorious for staying off social media big time, but luckily the Hip-Hop icon does let the internet in on his musical taste at least once a year when he drops his personal playlist on Tidal. Yesterday, Hova once again decided to unveil what he’s been jamming to for 2020 and naturally the 40-cut deep playlist includes a gang of Jay’s artists and associates but also some artists you wouldn’t really expect to be on Jigga’s radar. Naturally you’ll find some of Jay’s preferred artists such as Jay Electronica, Beynocé, and Nas, but some surprises included Sault, KeiyaA, and Morray (you know they HYPE!). Notably absent from the playlist is anything from Roc representative turned Trump acolyte, Kanye West. Yes, we know Kanye didn’t drop anything new ...
Source: Mach-Hommy / Mach-Hommy, Inc. Mach-Hommy would be defined by most as enigmatic, mysterious, cryptic, and other adjectives that hardly capture the astonishing range he possesses. The Haitian-American rapper and producers’s latest project Mach’s Hard Lemonade, released exclusively via TIDAL, is an impressive addition to Mach’s expansive gallery of audio art. Seemingly unconcerned with accolades from critics and content with releasing music on terms that befit him, Mach-Hommy has forged a lane with supporters who willingly pay to own the product despite the famously high price tag. Betting on himself similarly as the late Nipsey Hussle did with the Crenshaw mixtape, the New Jersey artist upped the cost of his releases, feeding fans at a measured clip complete with a consistency that e...
Source: Bernard Smalls / @PhotosByBeanz As streaming continues to dominate how folks are spending their time inside one Rap’s greatest minds is providing more reason to jump to his platform. Jay-Z has added more rare gems to his online service. As spotted on Hypebeast the Brooklyn native has blessed his fans with some forgotten cuts from what many consider to be some of his best years in his career. On Monday, August 3 “From Marcy To Hollywood” was added to TIDAL. Originally landing on The Player’s Club soundtrack the DJ Clue / DURO produced track features Sauce Money and Memphis Bleek. The trio each spit some contemplative verses that shed light on their respective come ups. Additionally “What The Game Made Me” from the I Got The Hook-Up soundtrack also resurfaces with the thr...
Of the many music streaming options out there, few offer the high-fidelity listening experience of TIDAL HiFi. The service provides users with true lossless audio quality, and right now you can hear the difference free for 60 days with an exclusive offer from Consequence of Sound. Thanks to its use of the FLAC codec as opposed to AAC, TIDAL HiFi offers the highest fidelity audio available. Its 1141kbps bitrate is 4.4 times better than the 320kpbs “high quality” audio of rival streamers. Plus, with TIDAL Masters and its MQA (Master Quality Authenticated) compression process, listeners can get a lossless audio experience approved by the artists themselves. From exclusive protest playlists and the best in metal music, to the latest releases from the likes of My Morning Jacket and Beyonc...
After releasing her surprise extended track “Black Parade,” Beyonce continues to celebrate Juneteenth with her new TIDAL playlist, “Motherland Drip” featuring James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone, Jay-Z, Nipsey Hussle and more. The multi-track collection includes a fistful of records from Queen Bey herself, including her Homecoming remake of “Before I Let Go” and The Lion King: Gift Soundtrack favorite “Brown Skin Girl.” The outro from Bey’s “Motherland Drip” playlist ends on a promising note, as she chose Dr. Martin Luther King’s “We Shall Overcome” speech to conclude her roundup. On Friday night (June 19), Beyonce shared “Black Parade” as an ode to Juneteenth. ...
Mindchatter is one of the most promising young electronic acts you’ve never heard of. Today’s release of his new single, “Language,” is your chance to hop on the bandwagon. Featuring the New York City-based artist’s own vocals over an upbeat instrumental, “Language” is the second single off his forthcoming album, which is currently untitled and has no definitive release date. It shows a sophisticated artistic direction for Mindchatter, with wonderfully dense synths, understated piano chords and arpeggios, and vocals that could induce ASMR. It’s creative like Medasin and groovy like Darius, but with an updated, youthful energy. After his initial 2019 releases received critical acclaim and top playlist spots, Mindchatter wa...
