TIDAL’s New Tool Allows Subscribers to DJ for Their Friends and Followers

TIDAL is flipping the switch on consumers, allowing them to create mixes and mashups to kickstart their careers as DJs.  TIDAL, a digital service provider known for their high-fidelity audio, is testing out a new featured called “DJ” for subscribers signed up for their HiFi Plus plan. In its current state, iOS users are the only ones able to create mixes with the “DJ” tool, but Android users can tune in and listen. With “DJ,” HiFI Plus subscribers are able to create a set and share it for friends and followers, who can tune in and listen to the mix in real-time, just like a live radio broadcast or podcast. Tidal Launches Free Tier, Steps Into User-Centric Payments

Tidal is launching a free tier in the U.S. and is introducing a user-centric payment model for its premium subscription offerings, the company announced Wednesday (Nov. 16). The moves mark the first major shifts under its new parent company Square, which acquired Tidal earlier this year for $302 million. Getting in on the streaming wave early paid off for the Brooklyn rapper turned mogul, who has finalized the sale of the streamer to Jack Dorsey of Square fame for $350 million. TMZ reports that the deal was closed on Friday, May 30. Dorsey announced in March that he intended to give Jay-Z a bag for TIDAL, at least partially. Jay-Z launched Tidal back in 2015—he purchased the Spotify rival for a healthy $56 million—with a celeb-filled announcement that included “partners” like Kanye West, Rihanna and Madonna.
