New Zealand further relaxes coronavirus lockdown measures

New Zealand PM Jacinda Ardern has announced a gradual easing of the country’s lockdown measures. However, the government said the country’s border will remain closed. At a news conference on Monday, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said the easing will begin starting on Thursday, meaning most businesses and public spaces could reopen. “But everyone would need to play it safe. We must continue to behave as if the virus is still amongst us,’’ Ardern cautioned. Troops kill 17 bandits in Kaduna

No fewer than 17 armed bandits were last Thursday, in Kaduna state, neutralized by troops of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN). An operation update released on Monday, by the military High Command, through Major General John Enenche, Coordinator of the Defence Media Operations, (CDMO), disclosed that some of the armed bandits also escaped with diverse degrees of gunshot wounds. General Enenche also disclosed that during the course of the operation, a church building and some houses of civilians, were damaged. Bandits attack Katsina villages, kill one

No fewer than 200 bandits on Thursday night reportedly attacked Batsari Local Government Area of Katsina State, killing a man identified as Alaramma Kano, 57, while injuring three other persons who were rushed to the hospital. Eyewitnesses said the bandits carried out attacks on two villages in the area at about 11.30 pm and rustled some cows. A British-Nigerian rapper, TY Ben Chijioke, has died from coronavirus complications. He was 47 . The rapper’s death was confirmed by his team on Thursday. The late rapper, who recorded several acclaimed albums, died of pneumonia as he was being treated for coronavirus. He was hospitalised after contracting the virus and placed in a medically-induced coma. A fundraising to fund his medical bill was closed on April 19 when he appeared to be recovering after leaving the ICU. Enugu lifts ban on religious gatherings

The Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN), Enugu State chapter, has said that normal services will resume in churches in the state on May 10. Ten person said to have been associated with Lagos State House, Marina, have tested positive for coronavirus and are currently in isolation. Nigeria extends ban on all flights by another two weeks

The Presidential Task Force on the control of the pandemic has announced a two-week extension of the ban of all flights in Nigeria which is due to expire on Thursday. Chairman of the task force and Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr. Boss Mustapha, said at its briefing in Abuja on Wednesday.
