The next major Marvel villain was inspired by electronic music’s most enigmatic artist. Next week, nerds and pop culture enthusiasts alike will flock to theaters for the release of the fourth entry in the Thor saga, Thor: Love and Thunder. This time around, director Taika Waititi has recruited the help of Academy Award-winning actor Christian Bale to play the role of Gorr the God Butcher, the movie’s primary antagonist and one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most menacing villains. Bale has now revealed that the character was inspired by the legendary Aphex Twin, whose music video for 1997’s “Come to Daddy” features an iconic scream sequence. Unfortunately for fans of the mysterious IDM icon, Bale’s request was denied since the imagery, he...
Looks like Kate Bush couldn’t make a deal with Gorr the God Butcher. According to Christian Bale, the singer’s music was supposed to be featured somehow in Marvel’s upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder, but didn’t made the final cut. “Taika [Waititi] and I wanted to do a whole dance, which we didn’t get to do, but we had all this sort of Kate Bush stuff that we worked at,” the actor revealed in a new interview with Deadline. “I think he just realized he was never going to be allowed to put that in the final film.” He added, “I would say that the most common thing I was staring at [while preparing for the role] was the Aphex Twin video of ‘Come to Daddy.’ But I don’t even know if that will be in the final film.” Advertisement Related Video He also revealed in a recent interview that when he agre...
The new trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder introduced audiences to the latest threat in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher. The pale alien has drawn visual comparison to He Who Shall Not Be Named, but trust us when we say Gorr is even more maddeningly powerful and terrifying. The trailer only teased the depth of Gorr’s motivation and abilities, as the character has a complicated backstory that stabs right into the core of the origins of the Marvel universe. Of course, it’s unclear exactly which elements of the character’s history will be adapted by Taika Waititi (under the guidance of Kevin Feige). While we won’t know for sure what this take on the God Butcher will bring to the table, we thought it prudent ahead of Love and Thunder’s July 8th rel...
After teasing her return in last month’s first-look preview, Marvel has fully unveiled Natalie Portman’s Mighty Thor, Goddess of Thunder in the first trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder. While he’s away, Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) is serving as Queen of New Asgard, a role she finds isn’t as exciting as it might have s...
Mjölnir is back in the first teaser trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder, but it’s not the Odinson wielding it. Chris Hemsworth may still technically be Thor, but it’s Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster whom the teaser reveals as the new Goddess of Thunder. Taika Waititi’s upcoming sequel to his series-altering smash Thor: Ragnarok picks up where Avengers: Endgame last left the mightiest Avenger. With New Asgard in the capable hands of its Queen, Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Thor has chosen to go galavanting about the universe with the Guardians of the Galaxy (Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord, Karen Gillan’s Nebula, Dave Bautista’s Drax, Pom Klementieff’s Mantis, et al). Determined to find out “exactly who I am,” Thor decides to put down Stormbreaker, give up the superhero life, and go on a j...
It’s the release date shift of madness, as Marvel has announced delays for almost all of its post-2021 features. The shakeup will see nearly the entire 2022-2023 slate of Disney-released films swapping positions, with Indiana Jones 5 also affected. The moves are cascading, with each movie moving to fill the slot previously held by the next film down the line. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (originally scheduled for March 25th, 2022) now takes Thor: Love and Thunder off its May 6th spot, which in turn moves onto Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’s July 8th date. The highly anticipated Black Panther sequel, expected to see Letitia Wright’s Shuri picking up the mantle from the late Chadwick Boseman, forces Nia DaCosta’s Captain Marvel follow-up The Marvels i...
