Kenya Barris to Write and Direct Wizard of Oz Remake

Warner Bros. has brought on black-ish creator Kenya Barris for the studio’s remake of The Wizard of Oz, reports Deadline. Barris will write and direct the “modern reimagining” of the beloved 1939 musical film, but is apparently keeping any further details under wraps. He will also be producing under his Khalabo Ink Society banner. In what’s sure to be a confusing situation for everyone not involved, New Line Cinema previously announced its own “fresh take” on Wizard of Oz in February 2021 with Nicole Kassell (HBO’s Watchmen) helming the film. It’s worth noting, however, that Warner Bros. owns the rights to the original Judy Garland-starring movie. Both of the upcoming remakes are based on the same original source material: L. The Tin Man’s Oil Can from The Wizard of Oz Is Up for Auction

Come out, come out, citizens of Oz! The Tin Man’s famed oil can can now be yours, but only if you outbid all the Munchkins in Munchkinland for it. That’s right, the famous prop that Dorothy used to save The Tin Man in The Wizard of Oz is going up for auction later this month as part of the Artifacts of Hollywood & Music Auction. At the moment, the oil can is on display at the Academy of Motion Pictures Museum in Los Angeles, where Hollywood legend has it that the Ozian memorabilia is the only surviving piece of The Tin Man’s original costume from the filming of the 1939 classic musical starring Judy Garland, Margaret Hamilton, Ray Bolger, Jack Haley, and Burt Lahr.
