Henry Cavill Leaving The Witcher, Liam Hemsworth Signs On As Replacement

With the return of Superman on the horizon, Henry Cavill is abdicating his lead role on Netflix’s The Witcher after three seasons. In his place, producers have tapped Liam Hemsworth to play Geralt of Rivia. “My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4,” Cavill said in a statement on Saturday. “In my stead, the fantastic Mr Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf. As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam’s take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men. Liam, good sir, this character has such a wonderful depth to him, enjoy diving in and seeing what you can find....

Toss a Coin to The Witcher’s Strong, Straightforward Season 2: Review

The Pitch: In the wake of the battle of Sodden Hill, rumbly-grumbly witcher Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill) has finally reunited with the adopted child handed to him by destiny: exiled Princess Cirilla (Freya Allen), last seen trundling around the woods by herself for an entire season. But now, winter has come and it’s time for Geralt to get some R&R at Kaer Morhen, where witchers go to fill up on elixirs and ale and put up their feet till spring. With Ciri in tow, it may well be time to train her into a new witcher (even as the secrets of her true parentage threaten to upend the land). Meanwhile, Geralt’s on-again-off-again sorceress lover Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) finds herself magicless after her explosion of fire “chaos” (read: magic) at the end of last season, first captured by...

“Destiny is a beast.” So goes the logline for the Season 2 trailer of The Witcher, which Netflix dropped this afternoon. Stream it below. In the clip, a narrator warns Henry Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia, “Something has changed, Geralt. The world’s acting strange these days. The North and South at war. Monsters roaming when they should be hibernating. Maybe it’s the end of days.” The titular witcher’s response? “I’ve lived through three supposed ‘end of days.’ It’s all horseshit.” As a hard-charging rendition of Kanye West’s massive 2010 hit “Monster” plays over top, the trailer then teases out all the palace intrigue, empire building, and battle preparations that will go down in the fantasy series’ sophomore season — not to mention Cavill taking on assassins, magic, and a particularly gru...
