The Strokes Win Best Rock Album Grammy for The New Abnormal

The Strokes won the Best Rock Album Grammy for The New Abnormal, beating out Grace Potter (Daylight), Sturgill Simpson (Sound and Fury), Fontaines D.C. (A Hero’s Death) and Michael Kiwanuka (Kiwanuka). This was their first-ever Grammy win. Despite connection issues when the winner was announced, the dudes were pretty pleased to win. The Strokes are in good company, joining the likes of former Best Rock Album winners including Cage the Elephant, Green Day, Foo Fighters, the War on Drugs, Muse, and Led Zeppelin. <!– // Brid Player Singles. var _bp = _bp||[]; _bp.push({ “div”: “Brid_10143537”, “obj”: {“id”:”25115″,”width”:”480″,”height”:”270″,”pla...

The Strokes Battle Robots on ‘The Adults Are Talking’ Video

The Strokes are not very good at sports, at least not in their new music video for “The Adults Are Talking.” The video is directed by Roman Coppola, who previously worked with the band on several clips from 2001’s Is This It. In an intense game of baseball, the band is losing by 56 runs, which will happen if you stick to making catchy indie rock riffs instead of working out. The song is from this year’s The New Abnormal, their sixth studio album, and echoes the nostalgic sound of Is This It. It’s probably not unexpected that they’re losing the game, as the opposing team is made up of robots. However, The Strokes certainly do not strike out; The New Abnormal was just nominated for a Grammy for Best Rock Album—up against Fontaines D.C., Sturgill Simpson, Michael Kiwanuka, and Grace...

Watch the Strokes Perform Songs Off The New Abnormal on SNL

Last night, the Strokes took the Saturday Night Live stage for the first time in nearly a decade. They played “The Adults Are Talking” and “Bad Decisions,” both off their latest album The New Abnormal. This appearance was the New Yorkers’ fourth on the show and first since 2011. Fellow New Yorker John Mulaney hosted SNL for the second time this year (he helmed an episode in February), and fourth time overall. Watch the Strokes perform “The Adults Are Talking” and “Bad Decisions” below. The Strokes Don’t Want You to Forget That This Weekend Is Daylight Savings in SNL Promo

This Saturday, the Strokes will perform on a special Halloween edition of Saturday Night Live. Ahead of the episode, the band appeared with this week’s host John Mulaney and SNL castmember Ego Nwodim to remind folks that something important is taking place this weekend: Daylight Savings Time. “Don’t forget to turn back your clock,” Julian Casablancas says with some authority. Check it out below. [embedded content] This the Strokes’ fourth performance on SNL. After a year that started off with a bang, the Strokes ended up having their best-laid plans fizzle out due to the pandemic. They did, if you remember, release an album, the now-eerily titled The New Abnormal, in April. You Deserve to Make Money Even When you are looking for Dates Online. So we r...

The Strokes to Appear as Musical Guest on SNL Next Week

After a year that started off with a bang, the Strokes ended up having their best-laid plans fizzle out due to the pandemic. They did, if you remember, release an album, the now-eerily titled The New Abnormal in April. Instead of building off the momentum of playing a Bernie Sanders rally in February and a handful of other shows in Europe and the States, Julian Casablancas and company will hit Saturday Night Live as the musical guest next Saturday on Halloween. John Mulaney will host the episode. See the announcement below. You Deserve to Make Money Even When you are looking for Dates Online. So we reimagined what a dating should be. It begins with giving you back power. Get to meet Beautiful people, chat and make money in the process. Earn rewards by chatting, sha...

Saturday Night Live: 20 of Biggest Breakthrough Musical Performances Since 2000

Saturday Night Live is back! The late-night sketch comedy returns to NBC for the start of its 46th season on Saturday. After spending half of last season shooting at-home episodes due to the pandemic, promos for the show have revealed the cast is back at 30 Rock’s Studio H8 and ready to put on a show. Former SNL cast member Chris Rock (’90-’93) will host the season premiere, which also features the debut performance of hip-hop’s woman of the moment – Megan Thee Stallion. Over the years, the long-running late-night series has featured some iconic performances, usually bringing in artists at a pivotal moment in their career and giving them a legendary platform to transfix America. And so, in that spirit (and because it’s 2020), SPIN looks back at some of the biggest breakthrough pe...

Miami’s III Points Festival Shares 2021 Dates and Stacked Lineup With Eric Prydz, ZHU, Wu-Tang Clan, More

After the morose yet unsurprising postponement of its 2020 edition due to the impact of COVID-19, Miami’s III Points Music Festival is bouncing back with a stacked lineup in 2021. Originally scheduled for May 1st and 2nd, 2020 in the heart of Miami, the next edition of III Points will return to Mana Wynwood from April 30th to May 1st, 2021. A number of artists on the original 2020 lineup have been confirmed for the rescheduled fest, including Wu-Tang Clan and Kaytranada. They join a massive bill that features Eric Prydz, ZHU, The Strokes, Three 6 Mafia, Green Velvet, Virgil Abloh, Marc Rebillet, and Channel Tres, among many others. An announcement with even more artists is also on the way, according to a press release issued to announce the event. Like the vast ma...

Watch IDLES Cover the Beatles, the Strokes and More

IDLES have never been afraid to do things their own way, and the British rockers’ unique spin on classics by bands like the Beatles and the Strokes is a perfect example. The two videos, along with a handful of others, were filmed while the group was recording at the legendary Abbey Road and provide a nice balance to the handful of tracks they’ve already released from the upcoming Ultra Mono (out Sept. 25 via Partisan Records). Of course — as with anything IDLES does — the covers are significantly different than their original versions. Fans of the original bands expecting to hear a familiar version of “Reptilia” or “Helter Skelter” may be sorely disappointed, but there’s no denying the creativity flowing through the new takes on them. For those looking for more IDLES origina...

Watch The Strokes Zoom Through Time in Animated ‘Ode to the Mets’ Video

Just in time for baseball season’s opening day, The Strokes construct an animated voyage through time and space with their dizzying “Ode to the Mets” video. The clip, directed by friend and collaborator Warren Fu, unfolds across eight chapters — the perspective literally zooming backward from the prehistoric era (where a vintage arcade game looms) to an abandoned high school gymnasium (decorated for a 1969 homecoming) to an underwater New York City. “Ode to the Mets” highlights the Strokes’ April-issued sixth LP, The New Abnormal, which also features the singles “At the Door,” “Bad Decisions,” and “Brooklyn Bridge to Chorus.” The album, which follows the 2016 EP Future Present Past, marks their first full-length since 2013’s Comedown Machine. The Strokes — who recently launched t...

The 50 Best Songs of 2020 (So Far)

Great songs have a freedom that albums don’t because great songs only have to pull off their trick once. It’s like how a great SNL sketch can be a terrible movie or why Vine was an underrated miracle of online comedy. Sometimes an artist can get a lot more done in miniature. When people say that no one listens to albums anymore, they’re obviously mistaken, but they mean that no one listens to certain kinds of albums anymore. They won’t wait to get to the good part, and an industry that’s been padding out their wares for decades has had to adapt to a new reality where the customer is always dope. From Hailey Whitters to Hayley Williams, from King Von to Christine and the Queens, here’s a supercut of just the good parts: The songs that have challenged and delighted and comforted us through a...
