He may be dumb, but he’s not a dweeb. Bryan “Dexter” Holland strides manfully to the edge of a New York City stage, and—holding two cans of beer—launches himself onto a sea of hands. His goal: to carry said beverages back over the thirsty-looking crowd and deliver them to the band’s sound-man some 20 yards away. “I’d done it before,” the Offspring‘s 32-year-old singer says later. “But this was going to be the record for distance.” Barely ten feet into the crowd, the horizontal Holland loses the beers—seized and guzzled by fans. Then he loses his shoes. Then his socks. Then he simply disappears, leaving his bespectacled aide-de-camp, guitarist Kevin “Noodles” Wasserman, squinting out from the stage. After a good five minutes—”It was definitely the record for time,” Noodles reports—Holland r...
The Offspring are in the midst of a Canadian tour and things haven’t quite gone according to plan. On Friday, while en route to Rimouski, Quebec to play a show, one of the band’s vehicles caught fire. Thankfully, no one was hurt, but unfortunately, everything inside the SUV was destroyed. “While traveling through Canada yesterday, something flew off the vehicle in front of us and became wedged underneath one of our SUVs and it caught fire,” The Offspring wrote on Twitter, showing footage of the vehicle engulfed in flames. “Everyone got out safely, but the luggage, passports, laptops and pretty much everything else was destroyed.” https://twitter.com/offspring/status/1556002182910005248 Noodles also shared the scary news on Instagram, posting photos of the roasted SUV. “No one was hurt. The Offspring’s Let the Bad Times Roll Tour is kicking off next month to support the band’s tenth studio record. The 18-city trek kicks off April 26 in San Diego, California, and wraps up on May 22 in Milwaukee. Special guests Radkey and Blame My Youth are set to open for the band throughout the U.S. stint. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. local on Friday, Mar. 4 via Live Nation. Let the Bad Times Roll is the third Offspring album produced by the iconic Bob Rock. “This album is probably the most cathartic thing we’ve done,” lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Bryan Holland said. “The messages might be dark, but at the end what’s left is that communication is important, working through feelings is important and most of all, hope is important.” The Offspring The Offspring Tour Dates Tue Apr...
Pete Parada, the drummer for the punk band the Offspring, said that he will not continue playing with the group because he refuses to receive a Covid-19 vaccination. Parada, who has Guillain-Barré syndrome, is immunocompromised and said his doctor advised against getting the vaccine at this time. “The risks far outweigh the benefits,” Parada said in an Instagram post, adding that he was mildly sick with the virus in 2020, and was concerned about dealing with those symptoms a second time after receiving a vaccination. “I’m not so certain I’d survive another post-vaccination round of Guillain-Barre syndrome, which dates back to my childhood and has evolved to be progressively worse over my lifetime,” he said in the note. The Offspring have not responded to SPIN’s request for comment at the t...
Who needs a car when you’ve got a plane? The Offspring have put a spin on James Corden’s popular Carpool Karaoke with Cockpit Karaoke — a video series that sees frontman Dexter Holland and guitarist Noodles singing along to some of the band’s biggest hits from inside a private jet that’s being flown by Holland, who’s a licensed pilot. “We know everyone’s heard of Carpool Karaoke, but Cockpit Karaoke??? No one’s done that!!” Holland told SPIN. “Since I’m a pilot, we thought it would be great if Noodles and I had some fun and got to sing along to some of our many hits.” For the series’ first installment, the duo take on their Smash hit “Come Out and Play,” with the “Keep ‘Em Separated Guy” along for the ride. PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) ripped the Offspring due to its “egregious exploitation of chimpanzees” in the band’s “We Never Have Sex Anymore” video. The animal rights organization implored frontman Dexter Holland to immediately take down the clip. “There are plenty of things we all miss about the ’90s—but animal exploitation isn’t among them,” writes PETA Animals in Film and Television Senior Manager Lauren Thomasson. “Every minute your video remains online, it risks legitimizing a cruel industry, propping up the exotic-‘pet’ trade, and reversing years of animal advocacy work that has nearly ended the use of chimpanzees in Hollywood.” The video also features Full House star John Stamos. No word if PETA was angered by his participation or his explo...
Punk rock stalwarts The Offspring took a very tongue-in-cheek approach creating a video for their song “We Never Have Sex Anymore,” off their latest album Let The Bad Times Roll. Known for their offbeat humor, in this case, the Offspring brought along chimpanzees, pole dancers, and of course, in an unlikely feature, Full House actor John Stamos for their latest video. Watch the “We Never Have Sex Anymore” music video below. [embedded content] Let The Bad Times Roll is the SoCal band’s tenth studio album. Much of the album jokes about hardships and “bad times” which can range from topics like the global pandemic or, as the latest single makes clear, not having sex anymore. While The Offspring didn’t intend for the album to align with political or civil issues, the t...
For The Offspring, four decades as a band has helped them master the art of timing—so much so that they don’t even realize they’re doing it. While taking nearly a decade to finish an album sounds like their attempt to create a punk version of Guns N Roses’ Chinese Democracy (which they famously joked about in 2003), their long-awaited 10th album has an old-school punchy feel that’s pertinent to the pandemic era. “It’s almost like the time had to be right for this record for whatever reason it just wasn’t right until now,” frontman Dexter Holland told SPIN over Zoom, sitting with guitarist Kevin “Noodles” Wasserman in the band’s plush red studio in Huntington Beach. While there’s certainly been no lack of inspiration over the last few years, the title picks a simple way to sum up the world’...
Following The Offspring’s announcement last month that the ’90s punk are releasing their first full-length album in nearly a decade, the Orange County-based band sharing a video for the quippy title track, “Let The Bad Times Roll.” The clip features several bored adolescents being attacked by their own technology, wronged by their medication, and talked to by inanimate objects throughout the house. The coronavirus even becomes animated and attacks in the funny-creepy clip. In true punk rock style, the title and tune are of course meant to mock the lighthearted saying “let the good times roll.” <!– // Brid Player Singles. var _bp = _bp||[]; _bp.push({ “div”: “Brid_10143537”, “obj”: {“id”:”25115″,”width”:”...
“Pinch yourself, it’s real” was the punchline to The Offspring’s jokey (but serious) announcement that a new record was dropping soon, the group’s first new LP since 2012. Guitarist Kevin “Noodles” Wasserman and singer Bryan “Dexter” Holland released an audio statement that affirmed, “We’re putting out a record. This is true. It’s different this time. Because it’s done. It’s finished. It’s ‘in the can’ as they say. We’re putting this out.” And they’re right. The irreverent punk veterans announced that their first album in nearly a decade, Let the Bad Times Roll, will be out on April 16 on Concord Records and is produced by Bob Rock. The album has been in the works for several years. From that collection, the band shared the title track, which the band says is reflective of these stran...
Election Day is barely in the rearview mirror, but punk veterans the Offspring are already in the holiday spirit. The band shared their first-ever holiday single, a cover of Darlene Love’s “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” that was produced by Bob Rock. The tune will be available on a limited-edition, holiday red seven-inch vinyl with custom etching on the B-side featuring the band’s logo. “It just seemed like the world could use a nice holiday song right now. We’ve always been huge fans of Darlene Love, so when the idea came up to do a Christmas song, we jumped at the chance to record that one…and tried not to wreck it!” singer Dexter Holland said in a statement. Listen to the traditional take on the tune below, which is very un-Offspring like. [embedded content] Earlier this year,...
