The first trailer for The Boys’ college spinoff Gen V has arrived, and when it comes to the subversive superhero series’ requisite bloodlust, the new installment seems set to pass with flying colors. The clip opens with an introduction to Godolkin University, a self-described “safe space” for super-powered teenagers “to thrive.” The curriculum, however, appears to have a much more punitive approach to the classic pass-or-fail format with numerous shots revealing blood-soaked students, disemboweled security forces, and deadly clashes amongst classmates. At one point, Jaz Sinclair, as the show’s lead Marie Moreau, brushes off the unusual college trials, saying, “I’m superhuman, right? We’re made of steel.” Despite her heroic confidence, every moment surrounding the statement suggests otherwi...
TV shows respond to Jeffrey Dean Morgan the way a mountaintop responds to dynamite. Playing wildly different characters on Grey’s Anatomy, Supernatural, The Walking Dead, and more, his presence has warped storylines and devastated main characters on the way to some of recent television’s most memorable moments. And so it is with great excitement that we learn Morgan will be fucking shit up in Season 4 of The Boys. Morgan’s role is a mystery, Variety reports, though also a long time coming. He has an excellent relationship with The Boys creator Eric Kripke from their time working on Kripke’s other massive hit, Supernatural. In January of 2020, Morgan tweeted that he was in “LOVE” with The Boys Season 1. Kripke responded, “I’ll make you ...
The Boys has pulled back the curtain on its upcoming college spinoff, revealing that the show is called Gen V while also introducing its cast. “It’s gonna be a rollercoaster,” star Lizze Broadway said in a promo video posted to the show’s social media accounts. “It’s gonna be filled with blood, guts, and everything else.” Jazz Sinclair added, “There’s love, and beautiful relationships, and tons of action and superheroes.” Maddie Phillips chimed in that there will be “lots of hormones, and drama, and mystery.” Watch the full clip below. The cast is rounded out by Chance Perdomo, Shelley Conn, London Thor, Derek Luh, Asa Germann, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Sean Patrick Thomas, and Marco Pigossi. Michele Fazekas and Tara Butter will serve as showrunners while also executive producing with Eric K...
The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke has clarified what more discerning viewers of Season 3 of the superhero parody series already figured out: the evil Superman character Homelander is a stand-in for former president Donald Trump. “He’s always been a Trump analogue for me,” Kripke said in a recent Rolling Stone profile. “I’ll admit to being a little more bald this season than I have in past seasons. But the world is getting more coarse and less elegant. The urgency of our team’s writing reflects that. We’re angrier and more scared as the years go on, so that is just being reflected in our writing. But part of it is where Homelander’s story naturally goes. He has this really combustible mix of complete weakness and insecurity, and just horrible power and ambition, and it’s just such a dead...
The Boys will be back in town for Season 4. One week after the third season debuted on Prime Video, the streamer officially announced the superhero satire has been renewed. In a press release, Prime Video also touted the show’s continued growth, revealing the worldwide audience has expanded 17% from Season 2 and 234% from the first season. “The Boys continues to push boundaries in storytelling while also being relentlessly entertaining and threading the needle on social satire that feels all too real,” said Vernon Sanders, head of global television at Amazon Studios, in a statement. “This stylized world of the series has incredible global reach and the viewership for opening weekend is proof of that. We are immensely proud of the cast and crew that has spawned a franchise for Prime Video, ...
