HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Michael Ochs Archives / Getty One of the most iconic groups ever are about to be immortalized in their hometown. The New York City Council has approved a petition to rename a street to “Beastie Boys Square”. As per Variety The Beastie Boys will receive a very unique distinction on the corner of Ludlow Street and Rivington Street in the lower part of Manhattan. The intersection is a direct nod to the album cover from their seminal album Paul’s Boutique. Even though the idea seems like it should have been a no brainer, the effort has been in the works for about nine years. Back in 2014 the community board first rejected the petition but on Thursday, July 14 the application was finally approved. Council member Christopher Marte expressed his enthusiasm ...

Black Caviar Gives the Lowdown on Every Track Off New EP, “Rivington & Ludlow”

After kicking off 2021 with two brand new releases, electronic duo Black Caviar is already back for more, this time with their saucy four-track EP Rivington & Ludlow. Out April 16th, the project’s sonic attitude and seamless transitions once again assert the Grammy-nominated artists’ dominance over their signature groove of worldly house music.  Through its run time, Rivington & Ludlow puts a modern twist on the trendy blend of hip-hop and electronic music. It finds its strength in its vocalists, placed front and center above carefully woven soundscapes of club synths and percussion.  “Own My Own Masters” stands out with its cheeky lyrical flair, and the previously released “Been That Ill” with G.L.A.M. infuses floor-poun...

The 35 Best Videos of the Last 35 Years

SPIN launched in the peak MTV era, when an innovative — or even just salacious — music video could make or break an artist. Thirty five years later, YouTube is an obligatory part of any promotional push, but no one’s counting on a mind-blowing clip to sell a record. (The views do often matter — just not always the creativity.) A sizable chunk of the best videos came out during the ‘90s alternative bloom, when directors like Spike Jonze, Michel Gondry and Hype Williams experimented with the style and substance of this malleable medium. But the format hasn’t died with MTV: artists like Childish Gambino, Kendrick Lamar and Miley Cyrus all made this list for a reason — and it wasn’t to meet a decade quota. Here are the top 35 from the last 35. Ready or not, here we go again. – Ryan Reed 3...

Source: Retna/Avalon.red / WENN Even though Joe Biden is still in the middle of the fight of his life he has landed a major victory. The Beastie Boys have given him the green light for using their work. As spotted on USA Today, the presidential hopefully made history in a way no other politician has been able to do so. The spot in question prominently features Joe Malcoun, owner of the Blind Pig, a performance venue in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The proprietor shares his frustration on how Donald Trump handled the Covid-19 pandemic and the financial strain he endured while remaining closed. “A lot of restaurants and bars that have been mainstays for years wi...

Skrillex Shares Studio Footage with Mike D of The Beastie Boys

The electronic music community has been anxiously awaiting the release of Skrillex‘s next body of work after he shared that the first of multiple albums was nearly finished back in March. Since then, we’ve had only brief looks at what he’s up to through videos posted by himself and fellow collaborators.  Skrillex recently shared a clip on his Instagram story of him working with Mike D of the legendary hip-hop trio The Beastie Boys. While short, the clip shows the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee drumming with the electronic icon. Unfortunately, this was the only look fans received as later posts on his page did not feature the special guest. Skrillex on Instagram Mike D is not the only Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee that’s been spotted with Sk...
