Internet and connectivity speed tester Ookla has released its market analysis for South Africa, ranking the country’s fastest internet service providers (ISPs). The analysis only takes into account top providers of internet services in the country, ones which account for 3% or more of total test samples in the market in Q2 – smaller providers are not tested. Telkom Introduces Prepaid and Top-Up International Roaming Services

Telkom has launched international roaming services – which includes full access to voice, SMS and data – to its Prepaid and Top-Up customers. “This is a good opportunity for Telkom that will enable us to provide roaming services to previously excluded customers, resulting in an improvement in our overall customer experience,” says Andrew Dawson, Executive Product Portfolio Management at Telkom. “We will launch in two phases, by first opening up roaming to the countries and network operators listed below and as a second phase, we will target all neighbouring countries within the SADC region. Telkom has introduced new closer calling plans for customers looking to ‘get more value for their money. The telco says that, starting in March 2021, copper landline customers will be able to align their calling plans to its SmartVoice plans. Telkom to Support Community-Led Coding Programme in South Africa

Telkom has partnered with the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies to hand over a community lab as well as a community-led coding programme to the Alice community in Eastern Cape, South Africa. As part of the Digital Skills Development Programme, Telkom has identified 25 unemployed youth aged between 18-35 with IT background from the community to partake in a month-long coding programme. Telkom has announced the appointment of Dirk Reyneke as Chief Financial Officer – to be taken on with immediate effect. He succeeds Tsholofelo Molefe who has resigned to join MTN Group. According to TechCentral, Reyneke was previously CFO of Telkom’s wholesale division, Openserve, and before that, he was CFO of its property business, Gyro.
