Telkom Business has announced today the launch of Telkom Lend, a new service to enable small businesses to apply online for funding and get an answer within 24 hours. Telkom says that Telkom Lend is an end-to-end digital process means no paperwork, no long queues and no waiting for a response from a financial institution. According to an anonymous insider who spoke to Bloomberg, Telkom has shown no interest in being taken over by the MTN Group. Telkom has announced that its customers now have access to three networks following the group’s recent addition of telecom giant MTN as a roaming partner. Telkom operates a network of approximately 6,900 base stations & continues to expand this footprint. It entered into an agreement with Vodacom South Africa for 2G, 3G and 4G services in December 2018. In this latest agreement, effective 1 November 2021, MTN South Africa has been added for the provision of 2G, 3G & 4G services. MyBroadband Insights has released its Q3 Mobile Network Quality Report, which shows the network quality of several of South Africa’s top telecoms gauged by a number of factors, including download and upload speeds, and latency. The report is based on results recorded between 1 July 2021 and 30 September 2021. The download speed (60%), upload speed (20%), and latency (20%) are used to calculate a Network Quality Score. The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA), the country’s communications regulator, has announced that it will not be publishing invitations to apply (ITA) to participate in the long-awaited auction of high-demand spectrum in South Africa. ICASA says that the move was made to avoid a lengthy court battle against several litigators that had issues with how ICASA was handling the auction.
