MTN SA Announces 2 New Executive Appointments

MTN SA today announced a review of its executive structure as the company gears up to deliver on its Ambition 2025 strategy to transform from a Telco to a TechCo. In line with this strategic shift, the company has appointed Ernst Fonternel into the role of Chief Consumer Officer and Divyesh Joshi into the role of Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer. Both appointments were recruited internally and are effective 1 October.   The new executive structure also sees the introduction of two new roles including that of Chief Commercial Operations Officer and Chief Risk Officer. Airtel Money is Now On its Own

Instead, Airtel Money will now be operating under the name ‘Airtel Money Kenya Limited’. “Following this business separation, Airtel Money Kenya Limited will take over and continue the provision of the Airtel Money Services, in collaboration with the licensed telecommunications network of Airtel Networks Kenya Limited,” reads the announcement from Airtel. South African telecommunications group Vodacom said on Thursday that it is seeking to invest R1-billion, or around $58.2-million, into improving its mobile network in the country’s eastern coastal province of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN). Vodacom SA Vows to Go 100% Green by 2025

Vodacom South Africa has announced that it pledges to halve its environmental impact by 2025, an effort that is well underway, according to the telco group, with a target set to accelerate the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The group says that within the next three years, it aims to diversify its energy mix which includes buying electricity needed for its operations from renewable energy sources. This target will have a huge impact on Vodacom’s pledge, as electricity consumption is the primary source of the telco’s GHG emissions. MTN Invests $56.4-Million in Rural Limpopo & Mpumalanga, South Africa

MTN SA has announced a ramping up of investments to modernise existing and deploy new network infrastructure across Limpopo and Mpumalanga, South Africa. The company says ultra-rural villages such as Mtititi and Ga Marishane will benefit the most from the investment. The $56.4-million investment will go toward MTN’s “Modernisation of Network South Africa project” (MONZA) as well as expanded rural reach, 5G expansion and restoration of vandalised network infrastructure, the telco says. “Our aim is to significantly enhance access and open the door to new digital opportunities for many more people across the province. Airtel Kenya Agrees to $30-Million Spectrum Settlement

According to the announcement Airtel Kenya has received approval for the replacement of its temporary licence with a ten-year frequency licence for 2×10 MHz of spectrum in the 2100 MHz band. The Competition and Consumer Authority of Botswana have announced the unconditional approval for the acquisition of 100% of Broadband Botswana Internet (BBi) by the Botswanan arm of South Africa’s Paratus Telecommunications Ltd. Both Paratus and BBi are licensed to provide a range of network and data management solutions and services to the business and residential sectors in Botswana. The aim of the merger was for both businesses to share mutually beneficial business aims by integrating the businesses, providing economies of scale, and sharing both infrastructure and office premises. SEACOM Boosts Its Fibre Network After Acquiring This Kenyan Telecom

Hirani Telecom is one of Kenya’s fastest-growing triple-play service providers, and the largest last-mile provider in the region. The network will be incorporated into SEACOM’s existing metro network in the capital of Kenya, Nairobi and will be under its full control.
