Mark Zuckerberg told shareholders on Wednesday that the metaverse project will bleed a lot of money and that some products will not be ready for 15 years. According to Business Insider, the Meta CEO told shareholders that he spent $10-billion on the idea of a virtual world in 2021 alone. “We want to get the hardware to be as affordable as possible for everyone, and make sure the digital economy grows,” Zuckerberg said. Meta currently has 10,000 employees working on the metaverse and wants to hire an additional 10,000 to work on the project. The giant company also announced that it is holding up on hiring, so the plans to push this project forward might be delayed further. Zuckerberg re...

How to Stop the Costliest Internet Scams

Image sourced from isnews.stir.ac.uk According to Steve Flynn, Sales and Marketing Director at ESET Southern Africa, it’s long past time organisations get a handle on business email compromise scams which generated more losses for victims in 2021 than any other type of cybercrime. While ransomware, hacking, API hacks, and all the other cybersecurity threats make headlines, it’s worth remembering that the costliest internet scam is still business email compromises, according to the latest FBI Internet Crime Report. Among the complaints received by the FBI in 2021, ransomware, business e-mail compromise (BEC) schemes, and the criminal use of cryptocurrency are among the top incidents reported. Technology-based systems are under attack, and they cost organisations around the world billions in...

GPU prices are still on a decline: Is Bitcoin’s sorrow gamers’ joy?

The prices of graphics processing units (GPUs), also known as graphics cards, are undoubtedly still a far cry from the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP). However, they aren’t what they used to be either, especially considering what GPU prices looked like just a year ago. For instance, the price of a GPU from Nvidia GeForce RTX 30-series is 14% over its MSRP, according to reports from 3D Center. Whereas AMD’s Radeon RX 6000 is up 7% from its MSRP from April 17 and May 8. On the other hand, it is the first time since January that AMD’s Radeon RX 6000 dropped below 10% over MSRP. Meanwhile, just a month ago, these same prices were 19% and 12% above their MSRPs, respectively. The Nvidia RTX 3080 currently goes for a price range between $1,000 to $1,300. Despite being at such a long ...

How to Reduce Risk When All Your Information is Out There

Anyone who uses banking and financial services, social media, mobile apps, or has retail accounts has shared their personal information far and wide across digital systems. Preventing identity theft and protecting yourself against scams has become more difficult in this new environment. “Social media and messaging platforms, web browsers, and mobile apps already have access to vast amounts of data about each user. You can choose not to use social media or digital tools to avoid this, but it is not very practical to do so and would exclude you from some of the modern digital conveniences,” Anna Collard, SVP of content strategy and evangelist at KnowBe4 Africa, says it is virtually impossible to avoid having personal data circulating in the digital realm. “Even if you did so, you...

In-chat Payments Help CMOs Address Costly Breaks in Customer Journeys

Chat Commerce is taking the lead when it comes to helping brands convince users to complete customer journeys. In fact, a simple, safe payment link within a WhatsApp message could hold the key for many companies, especially those in financial services, struggling with customer conversion, acquisition, and even cart abandonment. As user behaviour has shifted, organisations are relying more and more on their digital channels for topline revenue generation. However, the teams responsible for designing and managing those digital channels are feeling the pressure with the latest data from Clickatell’s latest Chat Commerce Trends Report showing 81% of customer service leaders saying they are compensated based on performance and sales within their teams. “When we surveyed more than 340 senior cus...
