Why the AI industry could stand to slow down a little

/ This year has given us a bounty of innovations. We could use some time to absorb them.

E3 isn’t coming back

The gaming industry has changed, and it doesn’t need E3 anymore. Share this story E3 2023 is cancelled, and the gaming industry is mourning. Like my colleague Ash Parrish, I’ve always wanted to go, but don’t think I’ll ever get the chance; the industry has changed enough that it’s probably not coming back. Even E3’s organizers don’t seem optimistic. The Entertainment Software Association’s (ESA)  president and CEO completely dodged when GamesIndustry.biz asked if the event would return in 2024. “We’re committed to providing an industry platform for marketing and convening but we want to make sure we find that right balance that meets the needs of the industry,” Stanley Pierre-Louis told the publication. “We’re certainly going to be listening and ensuring whatever we want to offer...

Y’all, this laptop is too much

Asus’s ROG Flow Z13, a collaboration with Acronym, has hit shelves, and I don’t even know where to begin with this one. Just take a look for yourself. Every so often I receive one of these bizarre little computers that Asus has done in collaboration with someone or other, and my senses are ever so slightly overwhelmed. They made one with an animated exploding head on the lid. There was one that turned into a DJ deck. There was one covered in dogs. But this latest release — the ROG Flow Z13 ACRNM — might be the wackiest one yet to cross my desk. There is no discernible theme, rhyme, or reason to it. It is pure chaos, top to bottom. Which, you know what, fine. It’s 2023. Fair enough. The Flow Z13 is the second collaboration between ROG and ACRONYM, an apparel brand that sells pieces like thi...

We’re already aware of at least three things you should mark on your calendar, and it seems like there will be major news of some kind from each one. Here’s the 2023 summer gaming events that we’re currently aware of. Given that E3 is now officially not happening, it’s possible this list will grow if more companies want to make a splash in June. June 8th: Geoff Keighley’s Su...

I never went to E3, but I’ll miss it anyways

/ E3 was more than flashy video game presentations and choked convention halls, it represented the opportunity to make connections and hear stories one might not experience otherwise. It was inevitable that E3 would end this way. Even before the pandemic put a pause on in-person gatherings, the Electronic Entertainment Expo was already on life-support as the larger developers had already put distance between themselves and the event to focus on their own presentations on their own time. And though E3’s eventual cancellation was all but written in stone, I still feel a great sense of loss. Which is odd considering I’ve never been to E3. I’ve covered it remotely before. It was my first year of freelancing for a small video game wiki site that no longer exists and I was excited because this w...
