In February 2021, Laidback Luke unveiled his Dark Chanell alias with the release of the project’s pulsing debut EP, No. 1. The iconic Dutch DJ, whose self-professed first love is techno, has now revived his ominous nom de plume with his sophomore record, the two-track New York Five-O EP. Out now on Luke’s Mixmash banner, the menacing EP offers the dark underground warehouse sounds that longtime techno fans crave. Fusing elements of disco with vintage techno, “Foxy Town” applies sinister bass guitar licks and a thumping bassline. Balancing out the EP is its second track “Hutch,” which uses haunting vox and brooding, glitchy sound design. Check out the new EP below. Fans of techno artist Remute may have to dig deep into their keepsakes for the proper modality to play his latest album. The innovative chiptune artist is set to release his upcoming Living Electronics album as a physical release exclusively playable as a cartridge on Nintendo’s iconic 8-bit Game Boy console. Remute is no stranger to porting his musical works on retro hardware systems, frequently retrofitting his sounds to work within the limitations of old technologies. His 2019 Technoptimistic album saw its physical release on the Mega Drive and The Cult Of Remute landed on the SNES a year later. “As with all systems I’ve done albums on before, it was quite challenging to compress my vision down to its pure essence,” Remute told NME. ...
How do you tell a new season has begun? Equinoxes and solstices? Leaves turning red, snow falling, flowers blooming, or the sun scorching? Well, if you’re a fan of Lane 8, there’s no better sign than the arrival of his seasonal mixtapes, a staple since 2013. The Colorado-based producer just released his “Summer 2021 Mixtape,” a 61 track house and techno exploration—including 22 IDs—clocking in at just over four hours. The mix starts relaxed and melodic, with sultry songs from Massane and a couple of remixes from Gui Boratto. A growling remix from Kasper Koman takes listeners into darker, deeper territory before Lane 8 leads the soundscape into melody-driven, dance-focused tracks. This ebb and flow between powerful, driving synths and soft, progressive melodies continues over th...

After Brooklyn-based dance music veteran DANK previously mentioned that he’s “sitting on a wealth of new music,” that statement is proving to be true. Following the release of his rave-ready remix of Jason Cluff’s “Here For Music” just weeks ago, the techno titan has returned with an original track alongside Frankie Bones, another venerated New York techno tastemaker. “I Can’t Stop Raving” features a percussive four-on-the-floor beat, which churns along with thick kick drums. Heavy-hitting sonics coalesce with hypnotic vocoded vocals, with the earwork of a refrain chanting “I can’t stop” for a club-ready roller. In this composition DANK and Frankie Bones expertly channel the dark yet infectious energy o...
The Dark Prince of Techno has quietly emerged from the shadows with new music. Gesaffelstein recently unveiled his first single in over a year, and it’s nothing short of breathtaking. Never one to follow trends—and always one to set them—the French electronic music legend paints a cinematic portrait of isolation with “Icia.” It’s haunting and hypnotic, harkening to dark dancefloors and vintage acid house raves. Punchy drums and analog-driven sound design lend to an ambiance of urgency as robotic, phased vocals croon a melancholic refrain. Just as the listener settles in, Gesaffelstein suddenly switches to a moody chord progression before the track peters out to a subdued conclusion, engulfed in the silence of a rave’s end. “Icia” arrives via The Ha...

With decades under his belt in the New York club scene, DANK has returned with his next hard-hitting techno track. This time around he lends his expertise to Jason Cluff’s “Here For Music,” dropping a remix packed with power and the potential to ignite dance-floors. Though minimalistic in nature, the energy of DANK’s new remix is palpable and will conjure imagery of dark underground warehouses, where nothing but strobes capture the movement of the crowd. It features steady, punching synth stabs and warbling bass that rumble with industrial flair. The arpeggiating chords that guide the melody are haunting and hypnotic, and sporadic vocal chops add a nuanced undercurrent. However, it’s the drops here that emerge as the song’s pièce de résistance. Just...
While the techno community is still reeling from the late February announcement of Movement‘s cancellation, the show isn’t over quite yet. Paxahau Presents recently provided an update to fans revealing that Movement isn’t completely awash in 2021, but it will instead be operating on a “micro” scale. Taking place during Memorial Day Weekend, Micro Movement will see performers taking to three Detroit venues: TV Lounge, Magic Stick, and Spot Lite. A lineup has not yet been revealed. In the spirit of Movement, the music will be bumping from day to night and will feature showcases fleshed out with all Detroit talent. Three more previously unheard songs are also included ...
The Chemical Brothers dropped a bit of good news this morning, sharing a preview of new music on the way. The legendary electronic music duo will drop a new single called “The Darkness That You Fear” this Friday, April 23rd. They took to social media to share an audio clip of the languid single, which sounds like it will contain the dark, spellbinding trip hop flair of a signature Chemical Brothers tune. The preview is short, but fans can hear the sultry vocal refrain, “Let your heart see the colors.” It’s also paired with a kaleidoscopic promo video, which offers a trippy audiovisual compliment to the track’s hypnotic soundscapes. Check out The Chemical Brothers’ official preview of “The Darkness That You Fear” below and pre-...
Charlotte de Witte is giving her “New Form” livestream series a serious dose of adrenaline. The techno tastemaker is set to perform at the world-famous Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello racetrack on April 29th, 2021. Based in Tuscany, Italy, the track is owned by Ferrari and has been a classic home to F1 racing for decades. de Witte is celebrating the forthcoming release of her Formula EP with a special performance at the prestigious racing venue. The idea first came about when she first re-discovered DJ Visage’s “Schumacher Song,” a Eurodance-style track that revs to life with the heavy-handed use of racing samples. Considering her Belgian background, de Witte felt drawn to a similar creative headspace since the Belgian Grand Prix has ...
