Belgian techno heavyweight Charlotte de Witte has launched a new sub-label, RPM, through her flagship KNTXT imprint to inspire and “build velocity around emerging talent.” de Witte, who recently made history by becoming the first woman to close out the Main Stage at Tomorrowland, is on a mission to help smaller artists reach similar heights. In order to keep up with the superstar DJ and the breakneck pace of the electronic dance music industry, RPM aims to create “a more agile platform” for artists to release music. “RPM is a turbo-charged, digital only sub-label of KNTXT that builds velocity around emerging talent and sounds,” reads an Instagram post shared by the imprint. “To meet the demand of the ever-evolving electronic music scene ...
Frank Ocean has shared a revealing window into the electronic tracks bumping around in the office afterhours. In the third episode of Ocean’s “Homer Radio” show on Apple Music 1, the elusive artist leaned heavily into techno and house music. The mix features a myriad of electronic tracks by artists such as Green Velvet, who have long waved the flag of the underground dance music scene. The curated offering is particularly notable after comments made in 2019 by Ocean, who said his next album was likely to embrace the influences of club music’s cultural epicenters. “I’ve been interested in club, and the many different iterations of nightlife for music and songs,” he said at the time. “And so the things I look at now have a lot to do with those scenes: Detr...
Kaskade is swinging to the dark side, and 22-year-old Justus is pushing the pendulum. They’ve joined forces for a new song called “Dance With Me,” which finds Kaskade entering uncharted waters. Tracks like “I Remember” and “Eyes” will stand the test of time, but this time around, he’s endeavoring into the world of hard dance. “Dance With Me” strays from the melodic and oftentimes ambient approach to his music and instead opts for a more heavy-hitting sound. The track kicks off with thumping, techno-inspired kick drums as reverberating stabs swell and slice through the arrangement. Eventually Kaskade and Justus unleash an ominous drop. At the break, a melancholic pad bleeds into spacey synths, carrying a gritty ...
Iconic, breathtaking, indelible—what can be said about Carl Cox‘s music that hasn’t already been said about Ultra‘s RESISTANCE Megastructure? The legendary DJ is embedded in the mythos of Ultra, a festival that is as vital to rave culture as Cox is to techno. He’s been throwing down in Miami for nearly two decades now, and the star of his legacy only grows brighter with each eye-popping RESISTANCE set. There’s no arguing the power of Ultra’s Main Stage, but the immersive Megastructure is the festival’s pièce de résistance. It’s here where Cox has enraptured the nation’s electronic music community since 2017. Carl Cox performs at Ultra’s RESISTANCE Megastructure. Rudgrcom But that wasn’t always the ca...

What better way to celebrate a new EP—and the year’s most anticipated electronic album—than with a massive party. Carl Cox took “massive” to a new level on October 15th, taking over London’s Wembley Arena for his first-ever headlining set at the iconic entertainment venue. But it doesn’t stop there. For the very first time, he treated attendees to music from Electronic Generations, his first album in 10 years. The impending record, Cox’s first as a live electronic artist, has the feel of a tour de force for the legendary techno artist, who promised a “true electronic music experience” inspired by the crowds he has watched and directed in dance over his storied career. The Wembley show was every techno fan’s dream. Captivating lights and...

HI-LO is back with “WANNA GO BANG,” a thumping techno track out now on Drumcode Records. The new song, which samples DJ Deeon’s “2 B Free,” is part of a two-track EP slated for release on October 7th. Between its layered kicks, driving basslines and acid-inspired leads, “WANNA GO BANG” has all the hallmarks of a signature, peak-time HI-LO record. Heldens mutates Deeon’s classic vocoded vocals and uses them as the track’s centerpiece, lending to a menacing techno banger befit for Drumcode’s illustrious discography. Take a listen...
Carl Cox‘s first album in over a decade continues to unfurl with his latest single, “See the Sun Rising” alongside Franky Wah. The two techno masterminds previously made dance floor magic with the euphoric “We Are One” in 2021, and thus a proper follow-up was all but certain. Cox’s heavy-handed kicks on “See the Sun Rising” punch through the mix expeditiously while the melodic techno sensibilities of Wah shine in the arrangement’s uplifting, arpeggiated melody. It’s a blend of sounds that Wah likened to a match made in heaven. “I think the record is a perfect combination of both mine and Carl’s underground sound,” Wah said in a press release shared with EDM.com. “Fast pumping drums and bass lines Carl is kn...
Creativity is boundless for Louis The Child. Some fans may associate them with a glossy dance-pop style meshed with future bass, a sound made popular by hit tracks like “It’s Strange” and “Better Not.” But there’s more than meets the eye with Louis The Child. If their rave-inspired headline performance at Red Rocks last year was any indication, genres are fluid. They’re meant to be traversed across rather than confined within. Louis The Child’s latest event, Alter-Ego, took that idea up a notch. By inviting artists to perform sets exploring left-field tastes, Alter-Ego materialized an unabashed focus on defying genres. A sprawling crowd at Louis The Child’s sold-out Alter-Ego show at Brooklyn Mirage. Drew Cigna “We like the idea of giving artists a platform to do somethin...
