Timbaland Creates Bored Ape Yacht Club Metaverse Entertainment Brand

AIP’s Bored Apes will function similar to digital idols like Miquela, who acts as a front-facing digital performer for songs. Those who opt to purchase these AIP NFTs will gain access to exclusive perks, including merchandise, events, studio sessions, custom art and concerts, all contained within the metaverse. To bring these static NFT characters to life, AIP has enlisted the help of BRON Digital, which uses Epic Games’ Unreal Engine technology. This is actually the second bit of Bored Ape Yacht Club-related music news to arrive in just the past two days. On Thursday, UMG’s 10:22PM label announced it had formed the NFT “supergroup” KINGSHIP, which is also comprised of Bored Ape Yacht Club characters. Both projects arrive as interest in Web3 and...

HHW Gaming Review: Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy’ Is A Flarkin’ Good Time

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Square Enix / Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Like the film of the same name, we hit the start button on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy with some very reasonable expectations but walked away, mightily impressed. Embracing The MCU A Little Bit Source: Square Enix / Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy When trailers for Eidos-Montreal’s Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy arrived, gamers, including us, were not blown away by what was shown. We immediately began thinking we were in for a second helping of mediocrity we experienced after playing Crystal Dynamic’s Marvel’s Avengers. We couldn’t help but think we are about to get another game based on a popular Marvel property that doesn’t accurately capture the feeling the Marvel Cinematic Universe films give its ...

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Crystal Dynamics / Marvel’s Avengers: Spider-Man With Great Power Hero Event Finally, the web-slinger arrives in Crystal Dynamic’s Marvel’s Avengers. We knew for a long time that Spider-Man was coming to Marvel’s Avengers as a PlayStation exclusive, but we had no idea exactly how he would translate into the game. That was until Thursday (Nov.11) when IGN exclusively revealed the trailer for Spider-Man’s upcoming “Hero Event” titled With Great Power. Unfortunately, the trailer doesn’t show any gameplay, but we get a pretty decent idea of how Spider-Man will play in Crystal Dyanmic’s take on the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Like other games revolving around the Spidey, his complete acrobatic skill set will be available, including web-slinging and wall climbing...

Music’s Latest Supergroup Is an NFT Project With Cartoon Apes

In a press release, the KINGSHIP project is billed as a “landmark, first-ever exclusive agreement to create a metaverse group.” Under the initiative, the team behind 10:22PM — a Web3, creator-focused record label founded by Celine Joshua — will develop and release new KINGSHIP music and products. Akin to pre-existing virtual idols like Miquela (or perhaps even a band like Gorillaz, who hid their human identities behind animated characters), KINGSHIP will be the front-facing digital performer used to cultivate a community and fanbase around the music. Jimmy McNeils, an avid NFT collector who goes by the username j1mmy.eth, is supplying the Apes for KINGSHIP from his personal collection, including the rare Golden Fur and Bluebeam characters. The initiative t...

HHW Gaming: The PS5 Jig Continues, Sony Reportedly Cutting Production Plans Due To Chip Shortage

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Future Publishing / Getty If you managed to get a PS5 since its launch last year, consider yourself very fortunate. According to a report from Bloomberg citing sources familiar with Sony’s operations, the company has reportedly cut production plans for the PlayStation 5 console by around 1 million consoles. The culprit? The same chip shortages and logistics constraints. Basically, it’s going to be even harder to find a PS5 console. According to the report, Sony initially looked to produce 16 million PS5 consoles in the year ending March 2022 but cut the figure down to 15 million. Sony’s Chief Financial Officer, Hiroki Totoki, recently revealed to investors that part shortages and logistical shortages have become more “severe,” the report further detailed....

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: SOPA Images / Getty Purchasing a PS5 is still more complicated than acquiring a platinum trophy in your favorite PS5 game, but Verizon could make that mission a little bit easier. Tuesday (Nov.9), PC Mag reported that Verizon would be selling PS5 consoles, a strange step for the mobile phone service provider.  Speaking with the website, a spokesperson for the company confirmed the news saying, “In the near future, Verizon will be selling a very limited quantity of Sony PlayStation 5 consoles in a handful of pilot stores and online. Inventory will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.” The spokesperson also revealed that consoles will not be available for everyone telling PC Mag, “Online customers must have an existing, post-paid Veri...

Tencent Music Ekes Out 3% Revenue Gain After Tough Quarter

At the end of the quarter, QQ Music’s daily video views and viewers reached 100mm and 18mm respectively, representing triple-digit annual growth. Music streaming services may bear the name “music” but are increasingly “pan-entertainment,” a term TME used to describe competitors that lured away its “casual users” and caused monthly average users to drop from the second quarter. (Music users’ average revenue per user slid to 8.9 RMB ($1.39) from 9.4 RMB ($1.47) in the prior-year period.) In addition to focusing on videos, TME is building its live-streaming business, used by 10,000 musicians by the end of the third quarter, and long-form audio — audiobooks, podcasts — that reach 140 million users monthly, up 89% increase year over year...
