Off their forthcoming record, The Tipping Point, Tears for Fears released their second single, “No Small Thing,” and its official video. [embedded content][embedded content] “In early 2020, Curt and I sat down together with just a couple of acoustic guitars,” Tears for Fears’ Roland Orzabal said. “The first time in decades. We needed a meeting of minds, a coming together psychically. We were literally going back to the drawing board looking for some depth, heart-and-soul with which to complete our album. Curt came up with this simple folk/country riff, a little bit Dylan, a little bit Johnny Cash, and then we were off. It was the complete opposite of what we had been trying to do for many years – searching for the elusive, modern hit single. We felt suddenly unencumbered, free if you like,...
Name Curt Smith Best known for Here’s the thing about being in a band, normally people don’t call you by your name: “You’re that guy from Tears for Fears.” My wife was in the record industry. At MTV, they literally used to call me Mr. Pennington, because my wife is Francis Pennington, who was a big publicist at the time. Everyone at MTV knew her more than they knew me. Then you get to where you meet young people and they’re saying, “Aren’t you Diva’s dad? Aren’t you Wilder’s dad?” So, you become known as a dad. Now younger people refer to me as “That guy from Psych,” because I’ve been on this TV show a bunch of times. I get recognized a lot for that. Current city Los Angeles, CA Really want to be in Well, there’s two places. Tuscany, I just feel at home. We normally are t...

Tears For Fears announced their first album in 17 years, titled The Tipping Point, and released the video for its title track. The Tipping Point is out on February 25, 2022. The British duo — Curt Smith and Roland Orzabal — cuts into the raw tipping points they, and recently the world, have faced over the last two decades. Orzabal co-wrote the track, diving into the grief he personally endured watching someone he loved die from a long-term disease. [embedded content] Via Concord Records, the making of The Tipping Point brought conflict upon the duo. “Before everything went so right with this album, everything first had to go wrong, it took years, but something happens when we put our heads together,” Orzabal said in a statement. “We’ve got this balance, this push-me-pull-you thing – and it...
In a year full of malaise, a number of your favorite musicians have performed covers that have taken on an extra meaning. Brandi Carlile’s cover of Tears for Fears’ “Mad World” is the latest and is top-notch. Shared on her social media platforms, Carlile’s chilling take of the synthpop tune (one that she’s been performing live for quite some time), along with cellist Josh Neumann adds urgency to what’s already an angsty song. While in quarantine, Carlile has performed several virtual concerts from her Washington home. “It’s a mad world, but we’re in this together,” she said before signing off. “Vote.” If that’s not enough, Tears for Fears’ Curt Smith approved of this version, which he tweeted in response to seeing the video. Check it out below. You Deserve to Make Money Even When you are l...
