TBS has stabbed Full Frontal in the back, canceling Samantha Bee’s award-winning late-night show after seven seasons. “As we continue to shape our new programming strategy, we’ve made some difficult, business-based decisions,” TBS said in a statement to Variety. “We are proud to have been the home to Full Frontal With Samantha Bee and thank Sam, and the rest of the Emmy-nominated team for their groundbreaking work. We celebrate this extraordinarily talented cast and crew and look forward to exploring new opportunities to work with them in the future.” Full Frontal launched in 2016, and while it was one of the few late-night shows with a female host, it further distinguished itself as one of the sharpest, most profane offerings on cable television. Critics loved it, and ...
After nearly three decades, Conan O’Brien’s tenure as the longest host in late-night history has come to a close. The final episode of Conan aired Thursday on TBS, serving as a fitting tribute to the comedian’s 28 years on the air. The episode opened with a Simpsons sketch in which an overly-excited Homer Simpson conducted O’Brien’s exit interview. While discussing the moments that stood out to them most throughout Conan history, Homer recalled a fairly vague interaction: “There was a time you had this actor on, and he was promoting a movie. And you asked him if there was any wacky stuff that happened on the set, so he told this mildly interesting anecdote,” he said with a laugh. When it came time for O’Brien’s last monologue, he reflected on the show’s 4,000-hour history, admittedly hesit...

Last night, he shared that Conan will air its final episode on June 24th. “We are winding down our TBS show,” O’Brien said while opening the show on Monday. “The plan is to re-emerge on HBO Max sometime in the near future with I think what will be my fourth iteration of the program. Imagine a cooking show with puppets, and you’ll have the wrong idea.” The final weeks of the show will include clips of O’Brien’s favorite moments over the past 11 years and a lineup of special guests, culminating in an hour-long finale. After expressing his gratitude for the...
Leveraging on excess liquidity that persisted in the banking system and the near zero yields on treasury bills (TBs), the Federal Government, through the Debt Management Office (DMO), raised N2.1 trillion from investors in its monthly bond issuance programme in 2020. This represents 33 percent, year-on-year, (y/y) increase when compared with the N1.58 trillion raised by the DMO in 2019. The N2.1 trillion raised in 2020 also represents 31 percent more than the N1.6 trillion funding target for the DMO under the Revised 2020 Budget. Meanwhile, the monthly bond auctions conducted by the DMO in 2020 recorded 275 percent oversubscription, reflecting scramble for the high yielding FGN bonds by investors. Newsmen report on monthly bond auction results show that the DMO offered N1.825 trillion wort...
