Tame Impala Sound System is taking to the road in early March for two back-to-back performances at the SNACK Weekender in Perth. Tame Impala Sound System was an idea born in the quarantine era subsequent to the frontman himself cancelling a massive stadium tour last year. Instead, Tame Impala took to jamming digitally via livestream with his bandmates on a trove of analog technology. Thus, Tame Impala Sound System was born as the group went on to appear together for a number of sets, most notably taking over NPR‘s “Tiny Desk” concert series late last year. The upcoming shows, however, will effectively be the live debut of Tame Impala Sound System. Taking to Twitter, the “Breathe Deeper” artist further fueled the excitement by sharing the war chest of synths an...
Kid Cudi shook the music world after announcing his latest album Man On The Moon III: The Chosen would drop this week. Upon pre-ordering the album, some fans noticed another familiar name in the production credits, Kevin Parker, perhaps better known to the world as Tame Impala. With the album out in full, we now know Mr. Rager sampled Tame Impala’s “Love/Paranoia” for his track “Dive.” The original track was the penultimate cut on Tame Impala’s Grammy-nominated album, Currents. Kid Cudi maintains the densely atmospheric textures and alternative-rock influence that graced the original, but flips the tone a full 360 degrees, yielding a particularly moody result. Stylistically, the sample choice aligns well with the rapper’s Man On Th...
In honor of what would be John Lennon’s 80th birthday (Oct. 9) artists including Kevin Parker of Tame Impala, Pete Yorn, Jeff Tweedy and Rufus Wainwright have covered songs from the late singer’s catalog. Tweedy, joined by his son Spencer and Liam Kazar, shared a version of Lennon’s “God,” off the John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band album, which you can watch below. Tame Impala is back with another quarantined performance—this time at the empty HBF Park in Perth—in celebration of FIFA 21‘s October 9th release. The set sees Kevin Parker alongside what he deems the Tame Impala Soundsystem, performing his two hit singles “Elephant” from 2012’s Lonerism and “Is It True” from his most recent album The Slow Rush. The trio filled the empty stadium with their psychedelic, groove-inducing beats and Parker’s signature falsetto. While “Is It True” will be featured on the game’s official soundtrack, “Elephant” should always be a contender for sporting events worldwide. The chest-thumping guitar and drum intro can ignite a crowd just as well as the infamous “Hey Song,” but co...
Soccer fans everywhere are preparing their thumbs for the release of EA Sports‘ FIFA 21. In addition to the promised gameplay and graphical improvements, the developers have announced what artists will be soundtracking players’ matches for the coming year. The 2021 soundtrack has been split into two. One-half covers the base game while the other handles the street soccer portion of the application, “Volta Football.” Between the pair, players will have access to tunes from more than 100 artists representing over 20 countries. Fans were excited to see music showcasing many different cultures together in one place—similar to how the world’s most popular sport unites spectators and players from all corners of the globe. The main difference between the tw...
Kevin Parker is keeping Tame Impala fans satiated through the ongoing live concert drought with a steady stream of remote performances. Last night he was the featured artist on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, returning to play “Borderline” from his hit album The Slow Rush. He was joined by his two constituents, Jay Watson and Don Simper, who he collectively dubs the “Tame Impala Soundsystem.” The trio patched in from Parker’s now-signature VHS-camcorder, showcasing his smooth vocals alongside a plethora of synthesizers, keyboards, and drum machines. He has perfected creating retro art for the current age, melding his psychedelic-pop stylings with the mainstream. So far, Parker has lit up screens with performances on Mark RonsonR...
Watch Parker bring synesthesia to life. Kevin Parker, the man, the myth, and the legend behind Tame Impala, has released the official music video for “Is It True,” the sixth single from his The Slow Rush LP. The psychedelic, technicolor visuals are reminiscent of Parker’s live performances, engulfing the viewers in a world of synesthesia. The visuals depict Parker grooving in a retro format that looks like it was created with a mix of VHS recordings and Amiga 2000 graphics. The result feels as if you’ve entered the multi-instrumentalist’s private trip, a landscape of introspective, glitched-out art. The “Is It True” music video arrives shortly after Parker surprised fans with a rare Tame Impala remix of 070’s Shake‘s ...
In the wake of international protests against the death of George Floyd and other Black men and women at the hand of police officers, BMG has committed to action. And timeframes. One week on from “Black Out Tuesday,” BMG has set out its stance on racism and inequality. The music company circulated a message to thousands of its artists and songwriters with a pledge: “We need to play our part in addressing historical injustices inflicted on black people.” Mindful of the music industry’s “record of shameful treatment of black artists,” the message reads, “we have begun a review of all historic record contracts. If any inequities or anomalies are found, BMG will create a plan to address them within 30 days.” BMG also promises to address diversity within its workplace. “...
