Adegboye Onigbinde: Teslim Balogun remains Nigeria’s greatest
Former Super Eagles coach chief Adegboye Onigbinde has insisted that the late Teslim ‘Thunder’ Balogun remains the best footballer ever produced by Nigeria. Onigbinde said as much as the Balogun family today remembers the late soccer legend who died 48 years ago at the age of 45. Balogun was the first Nigerian to play professional football in England, signing for Peterborough in 1949 and also had stints with Queens Park Rangers where he played 13 times and scored three goals in 1956. Henry Onyekuru left out from Monaco pre season tour
The future of Super Eagles attacking winger, Henry Onyekuru, may be hanging in the balance after he was dropped from Monaco’s pre season training tour in Poland. Monaco coach Niko Kovac announced a 26-man squad for the tour on Monday with the name of the Nigerian missing. Although reasons for his exclusion were not disclosed, it appears that his services at the Principality club may not be needed by Kovac who just took over the reins. The player has been on loan with Turkey side Galatasaray after failing to cement regular playing time n his debut campaign in France. Monaco are due to play their third pre-season friendly on August 1 against German club Eintracht Frankfurt during their training stint in Poland. The new Ligue 1 season will kick off on August 22. Super Eagles goalkeeper, Francis Uzoho, has been transferred to Apoel FC. No details on the amount of the operation, but the goaltender signed a three-year deal with the Cypriot club. KRC Genk has confirmed that Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu has fully recovered from the ravaging coronavirus. Former FC Midtjylland forward had tested positive for the deadly virus when all the Belgian Jupiler League clubs have to undergo compulsory test and has to be quarantined for 7 days. He missed the club’s last training match but is expected to resume training with the rest of the players. Peter Etebo named in Stoke City’s retained list for 2020/21 season
Super Eagles midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo has been included in Stoke City’s retained list for the 2020/21 season. Etebo joined LaLiga club Getafe on a six-month loan deal in January after falling down the pecking order under new manager Michael O’Neill. The combative midfielder featured in 11 league games for Stoke City before the switch. Getafe hold an option to sign the 24-year-old on a permanent transfer at the end of the season.
