Cleric cautions Nigerians on dangers of unforgiveness

A Catholic cleric, Rev. Fr. Kingsley Ferdinand, has advised Nigerians to cultivate the spirit of forgiveness as it is the only way to make heaven. Ferdinand, the Associate Priest at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Nyanya, Abuja, gave the advice during the Holy Mass on Sunday. Operatives of the Zamfara State Police Command have arrested Abu Dan-Tabawa, an ally of former Governor of the state, Abdulaziz Yari, after allegedly holding a secret meeting with bandits in Gusau, the state capital. JOHESU declares nationwide strike

The Joint Health Workers Union, JOHESU, has asked its members to withdraw their services and embark on a nationwide strike starting from midnight on Sunday, September 13, 2020. This decision was reached at the National Executive Council (NEC) of the union’s meeting on Saturday. The Union in a statement on Sunday said, it gave the Federal Government one week to address all lingering issues and nothing concrete had been achieved. 27 Stranded Nigerian girls evacuated from Lebanon arrive Abuja

Another batch of 27 stranded Nigerian girls evacuated from Lebanon by the Federal Government and the Lebanese Government, as well as its community in Nigeria arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Sunday. Nigeria confirmed virus cases top 55,000

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Sunday night, announced 100 new COVID-19 cases. The new cases were reported from 10 states – Lagos (39), FCT (22), Kaduna (19), Oyo (7), Ebonyi (6), Edo (3), Katsina (1), Ekiti (1), Bauchi (1), Nasarawa (1) It brought the total in the country to 55,0085, six months after the index case was diagnosed. Out of that number, 43,013 patients have been discharged and 1,057 deaths have been recorded. Lagos still has the highest number with 18,347, while Kogi has reported only five. Tour de France begins first round of coronavirus tests

The Tour de France started the first round of in-race Covid 19 testing, originally announced for the first rest day, before the start of Sunday’s stage, organisers told AFP. The Tour had scheduled tests for the two rest days, the first of which is on Monday, but started the opening round in their mobile lab at the start in Pau. NFF mourns demise of former Flying Eagles goalkeeper, ICT head

A former Flying Eagles goalkeeper, John Felagha, has passed on. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) broke the sad news on its Twitter page yesterday, saying the 26-year-old former Golden Eaglets goalkeeper at the 2009 U17 FIFA World Cup died in Senegal on Sunday. The NFF wrote: “Former National U17 and U20 goalkeeper John Felagha has died. Felagha died on Sunday in Senegal. He was aged 26. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.” In a related development, NFF were also thrown into mourning following the death on Saturday evening of the Federation’s Head of ICT, Mr. Tolulope Abe. IG orders Edo, Ondo CPs to review preparations ahead of elections

The Inspector General of Police (IG), Mr Mohammed Adamu, has ordered the Edo and Ondo states Commissioners of Police (CPs) to rejig preparations ahead of the governorship elections coming up in the states. The Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Mr Frank Mba, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday in Abuja. He said the order was to accommodate and address the threats and emerging trends as contained in the Election Security Threat Assessment Reports. Mba said the IG gave the order after reviewing the assessment reports submitted by the CPs from Edo and Ondo states ahead of the elections slated for Sept. 19 and Oct. 10 respectively.
