Listen to Subtronics and Excision’s Massive Long-Awaited Collaboration, “Bunker Buster”

As the safe return of music festivals becomes more and more of a reality, bass music fans are dusting off their neck braces. Ergo, head-bangers rejoiced today after two of dubstep’s most popular artists released one of the genre’s most anticipated collaborations in recent memory. Subtronics and Excision have finally unveiled “Bunker Buster,” a long-awaited song that was debuted back in December 2019 during the former’s performance at HiJinx. Teeth-chattering bass ripples through each of the single’s three unique drops, which contain signature elements of both producers’ styles. However, fans shouldn’t simply fast-forward to the loudest part of the waveform. The verses of “Bunker Buster” are jaw-dropping, kicking off with beautiful...

Subtronics Drops Exclusive Gucci Mane Flip on Audius

Subtronics‘ rise to the forefront of bass music can be attributed to many things, including his unique sound and out-of-this-world live performances. Lately, the Philly-born producer has been churning out some of the most heavy-hitting remixes, such as his rework of Capone‘s viral TikTok track “Oh No.” For his latest, Subtronics has returned with a wild flip of Gucci Mane‘s “I Might Be” via Audius. Subtronics ditches the original beat of “I Might Be,” cooking up his own with modern electronic elements that reflect his bass-focused creativity. The flip is reminiscent of his remix of “GodLovesUgly” with Zeds Dead, as he similarly retains the original verses while distorting them to add a bit of his own flair.  The la...

EDM.com’s Best of 2020: Music Producers

This year, the team at EDM.com is proud to publish four installments of “Best of 2020” coverage: Industry Leaders, Performances, Music Producers, and Songs. DJing and music production are different. But the difference between the two is like a wallflower—it hides in plain sight, and it is vastly misunderstood. Many artists do both, but not all DJs produce music and not all music producers DJ. Producers create the music that a DJ will then play out to crowds—it’s an important distinction that eludes many. Like a sleek Lamborghini driving from one coast to another, the art of DJing is a stylish means to an end. And music production is the engine that powers it. To publish a “Top DJ” list would be to undermine the originality, ingenuity, and dauntless imagin...

It’s currently trending on the app and has been used in countless videos on the platform. For his flip, Subtronics gave fans a rare taste of some drum & bass production. The first half of the remix features a sound that longtime fans may be more familiar with while the second descends into unrelenting drum & bass cha...

Subtronics Shares 6 Mind-Melting Cyclops Tracks Ahead of Debut Compilation

Fresh off the announcement of his own record label, Subtronics was so excited for its debut compilation that he had to release a few tracks early. Ahead of the December 11th release of Cyclops Recordings‘ highly anticipated Boot Camp compilation, the dubstep star dropped the curtain on “High Knees Headquarters,” one of the record’s three chapters. The portion spans six tracks, all of which transport to a Wild West of bass music where experimental sound design reigns supreme. Subtronics kicks things off with “Tractor Beam, a quirky dubstep banger, and Akeos follows with the menacing bass tune “Makura,” which belongs in a Blade film. Syzy then hops in with a mind-melting riddim track called “Poison MuffinsR...

After Cryptic Email Campaign, Subtronics Announces Debut Cyclops Compilation

Last week, a number of electronic music producers received random, cryptic emails from an address that looks like it was comprised of hieroglyphics. Many of those artists tweeted about the email in a collective “WTF” moment, sharing screenshots of it to the bewilderment of EDM Twitter. Adding to the mystique of the whole email quandary was its contents. In a blurb that looks like it was plucked out of a Hunger Games book, the email simply reads, “You have been selected. You will be required to use your individual set of skills in order to survive. Your first mission launches soon.” Confused by the email and its Liam Neeson quote from Taken, many of the artists who received it tried to decipher the message, but to no avail. The source of the email...
