Red Fang Eulogized by Matt Pike, YOB, and More in Video for “Rabbits in Hives”: Stream

Red Fang are back with more comedy gold, this time staging their own funeral for the hilarious video for “Rabbit in Hives.” Just in time for Halloween, the four members of Red Fang find themselves deceased. At the open-casket memorial, a host of the band’s fellow heavy rock luminaries are in attendance to pay their respects: a shirtless Matt Pike of High on Fire, members of YOB, Lord Dying, and more. “I was surprised by the death of Red Fang,” eulogizes the band’s now jobless tour manager. “I guess a life of marginal fame and fortune takes a toll.” Advertisement Related Video One by one the guests take their turns at the podium, which devolves in a tongue-in-cheek roast of Red Fang. Monolord Announce New Album Your Time to Shine, Share “The Weary”: Stream

Monolord have announced their new album, Your Time to Shine, arriving October 29th. The Swedish band also shared the LP’s opening song, “The Weary.” Pairing emotionally charged doom metal against pleas of environmental and social despair, Monolord offer up more crushing revelations with the new track. The trio has never shied from expressing misanthropy toward human fallacies in the realms of religion and politics. As that pessimism turns to hopelessness, the band turn toward a new audience: the future. Advertisement Related Video “’The Weary’ is us telling a story to future generations that we are sorry but we f**ked it all up,” guitarist-vocalist Thomas Jäger said via a press release. If those intentions aren’t clear enough, the album cover for Your Time to Shine features what looks to b...

Danzig and Emperor are still on board as headliners, but Mercyful Fate have dropped off the bill, with Down moving up into the vacant headlining slot. However, a number of those acts are no longer on the bill, including Mercyful Fate, Boris, At the Gates, Katatoni...

Monster Magnet Announce Covers Album A Better Dystopia, Share “Mr. Destroyer” (Poo-Bah): Stream

Heavy psych rockers Monster Magnet have announced a new covers album, A Better Dystopia, out May 21st. As a preview, the band has shared a ripping version of Poo-Bah’s “Mr. Destroyer”. The 13-song tracklist showcases Monster Magnet’s esoteric knowledge of obscure psych rock. They take on Hawkwind (“Born to Go”), cult NYC heavy psych act Dust (“Learning to Die”)”, The Pretty Things (“Death”), and The Scientists (“Solid Gold Hell”), among other relatively obscure gems. The idea for the covers album came after Monster Magnet’s European “Powertrip” tour was halted in February of 2020 when the pandemic hit. To occupy the downtime, the band set out to record a DIY album rather than play streaming shows or sell merch. “We all agreed that we would be bored out of our minds within a month of lockdo...

The Sword Guitarist Says Metallica’s Kirk Hammett Had the Best Weed Ever

The Sword’s Kyle Shutt (photo by Jack Thompson) / Metallica’s Kirk Hammett (photo by Raymond Ahner) Back in 2008, Metallica and The Sword teamed up for the “World Magnetic Tour”. Somewhere along the way, Metallica’s Kirk Hammett offered The Sword’s Kyle Shutt some weed, and according to the guitarist, it’s the best he’s ever had. With Shutt playing guitar in one of the most renowned stoner metal bands, Metal Injection put the question to Shutt: Of the artists who’ve smoked him up, who had the best weed? Shutt answered immediately: “Kirk Hammett. He had this shit called ‘Romulan’ one time, which was, probably, the best weed I ever smoked.” A Leafly search of the Romulan strain, named after the wise and mysterious Star Trek race, reveals that its a “powerful indica revered for it...
