In honor of legendary composer Ludwig van Beethoven, Deezer has recruited the help of 14 dance music acts to remix some of the pioneering pianist’s most influential works. Ahead of its release later this week, EDM.com has teamed up with the streaming service to offer an early look at one of the upcoming compilation’s highlights from none other than Steve Aoki. For his remix, the Dim Mak founder took on Beethoven’s “Piano Sonata No. 8,” also known as “Sonata Pathétique.” Renamed “The Morning Routine,” Aoki’s remix begins with the signature piano largely untouched. Gradually, he stirs in some synth elements and adds frenetic drums before laying down a smooth house drop with soulful vocal samples. For those unfamiliar...
Superstar DJ Steve Aoki and his brother Kevin, a renowned restauranteur, are opening a new Japanese-inspired eatery on the Las Vegas Strip. Kuru Kuru Pa will open this summer as part of the rollout of Zouk Group’s Resorts World Las Vegas, the first resort built on the Strip in the last decade. According to the restaurant’s social media, its design and concept were inspired by Japanese culture and anime. Kuru Kuru Pa’s menu will feature a variety of yakitori and kushiyaki (types of grilled or skewered chicken), and yaki onigiri (a grilled rice ball), among other signature dishes. Kuru Kuru Pa isn’t the first restaurant venture for the Aoki brothers. Back in 2012 they opened Bluetree Café in Honolulu, a juice bar and café known for its beautiful açaí bowls. ...
Steve Aoki has teamed up with Puerto Rican superstar Farruko for a new reggaeton single called “Aire.” Out on Ultra Music, the uplifting tune provides a pleasant poolside ambience. Released just ahead of the celebrated cannabis holiday 4/20, the lyrics praise the plant, stating “the atmosphere is good and it smells like marijuana” in Spanish. Using dembow rhythms, steel drums, and the dancehall vocals of Farruko, this song is ideal for summer. A blend of Spanish and English, the lyrics discuss a party that “doesn’t end until tomorrow,” and has hemp aplenty. In July 2020, Aoki launched his Dim Mak En Fuego imprint as an evolution of his Dim Mak label founded in 1996. This new banner gives a spotlight to Latin culture and experiences, and challenges the old ways of traditional Latin mus...

After making headlines for his historic $69 million NFT sale, Beeple is once again drawing immense attention with a new, charitable auction. Organizers have also stated that each piece is carbon-negative and promise that carbon offsets will be provided to each artist involved. Naturally, the circumstances surrounding the unique auction have caused many prominent figures in the art and crypto worlds to get involved. Considering the many electronic music crossovers in the NFT realm, two high-profile dance music stars unsurprisingly joined in on the bidding. Both Steve Aoki and Calvin H...
Steve Aoki has arrived with his next star-studded collaboration. He’s joined forces with the multi-platinum selling pop songstress Kiiara for the new single “Used To Be,” along with none other than the Grammy and Golden Globe-nominated Wiz Khalifa. The track will sound familiar for those who were alive when CDs reigned supreme. It’s a bright reimagination of Matchbox Twenty‘s hit single “Unwell,” but instead of Rob Thomas belting out the iconic chorus, we have the angelic vocals of Kiiara leading the charge. The production leans towards a melodic pop crossover hit with soaring synths and strong drum patterns. Khalifa’s signature flow rounds out the track and brings some edge to the nostalgic collaboration. Along wit...
