Steve Aoki is treating his hardcore trading card fans to a specially-curated treasure hunt. The Dim Mak founder recently announced a partnership with one of the world’s most popular trading card marketplaces, TCGplayer, with whom he will sell $3 million of his personal Pokémon collection. This includes toys, promotional items and, of course, cards. Aoki has also thrown in meet-and-greet opportunities, autographs, and more to spice up the sale for his fans. Collectors will have the ability to buy individual cards from his collection directly or take home three types of very limited mystery boxes. He explained the new program in a series of tweets: At the time of writing, the first batch of mystery boxes are sold out. They were available in three tiers: Diamond, Gold, and Magma for $55...
Some people are just built different. Even if you aren’t a sports fan, there’s a good chance you heard about Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder’s fight over the weekend, which is being hailed as one of the most thrilling heavyweight bouts in boxing history. In the final matchup of their historic trilogy, Fury dropped Wilder with a vicious knockout punch to defend his title in Las Vegas. Fury was fired up after the knockout. “Like the great John Wayne said, I’m made of pig, iron and steel, baby!” he said in a post-fight interview. Fury may actually be telling the truth. Immediately after his win, the heavyweight champ joined Steve Aoki to tear up Hakkasan Nightclub despite going 11 grueling rounds with a 6′ 7″, 238lb gladiator. Recommended Art...
Steve Aoki has revealed a brand new side project, a techno music alias dubbed Ninja Attack. The move should come as no surprise. Underground house and techno music have seen a resurgence in the mainstream as of late, and if there’s anyone to capitalize on the trend, it’s Aoki. The dance music veteran’s reputation has long been predicated on his detachment from genre boundaries. Ninja Attack’s debut is called “Aurora.” The track is dark and minimal in nature, and while it surely won’t impress the traditionalist diehards of the techno community, it’s a solid foray into the genre. Aoki was smart to keep the production subdued here, so as to not completely alienate his fanbase. The kick drums smack with an industrial thud, but the sound desi...
Steve Aoki is one of the most accomplished DJs on the planet, but even those most veteran artists sometimes fail to rise to the occasion. In a recent interview with Emmy Award-winning journalist Graham Bensinger, Aoki shared a story about a remix for Kanye West that will never see the light of day. He recalls listening to a freestyle from West over the phone and later being sent stems to remix a song. However, Aoki was stunned when he realized the song included verses from the likes of West, Drake, Eminem, and Lil Wayne. As many may have deduced, this was likely a remix of the mega-collaboration “Forever.” Unfortunately, it never saw the light of day. Aoki himself deemed the remix not good enough, but having the opportunity to remix it today would be a completely dif...
