Steve Aoki has teamed up with an expert in neuroscience for a fun lecture on focused ultrasound technology. The Dim Mak boss is known to have his hands in many ancillary ventures outside of electronic dance music, like NFTs, Pokémon cards, apparel and more. However, an often overlooked aspect of his story are his philanthropic endeavors through his Aoki Foundation. With a focus on the functionality of the brain, Aoki raises funds for new brain science technology and the research of regenerative medicine. He’s also hosted many educational events to help raise awareness of brain preservation. Now, in a partnership with West Virginia University’s Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute, Aoki has released a video highlighting technology that fights symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease, tremo...
Several of dance music’s biggest names are ready to celebrate “hyperbitcoinization” with performances to close out the upcoming Bitcoin 2022 Conference. Since the advent of Miami Music Week and Ultra Music Festival, Miami has always been a cultural hub for dance music. In even more recent times, however, the city has positioned itself as the future crypto capital of the U.S. The effort has been fostered through the leadership of Miami’s Mayor Francis Suarez, who has opted to take his own salary in Bitcoin and has facilitated the creation of Miami’s own dedicated blockchain asset, MiamiCoin. Becoming the home to the annual Bitcoin Conference, the largest celebration of the world’s most popular digital asset has proved a boon to Miami’s rep...
Steve Aoki and Afrojack‘s “No Beef” became a gateway to discovering dance music for a new generation of listeners. Now, 11 years following its release, Aoki is rekindling the magic through a fresh perspective. In 2011, the frenetic tune with vocals from Miss Palmer was an instant attention-grabber given the intersection of Aoki’s electro house characteristics and Afrojack’s influence within the stylistically adjacent Dutch house movement. Never one to tie himself to any given genre, Aoki didn’t hesitate to tweak the winning formula over a decade later. With his new remix, he shakes up the drum arrangement with the kicks, snares, and percussion more consistent with the tech house arrangements dominating the airwaves today. At heart, however, the new versi...
Alternative sports organization Fan Controlled Football (FCF) has raised $40 million in Series A funding from crypto and blockchain gaming firms to support the league’s expansion plans, including four new teams and an NFT project. The FCF was founded in 2017 by Sohrob Farudi, Patrick Dees, Ray Austin and Grant Cohen and hosted its debut season inside a bubble environment in Atlanta amid the pandemic last year. The FCF features an indoor version of American football in a seven vs seven-player format, and the games are streamed live on Twitch. The unique feature of the league is that the teams are governed by their fans, who have voting rights on anything ranging from player acquisitions, in-game plays, branding and team selection. For the upcoming season, NFTs will play a key role in the vo...

It’s been more than three years since the tragic death of Mac Miller in 2018, but the support of his friends and collaborators remains as strong as ever. So goes Miller’s relationship with Steve Aoki, who recently took to Twitter to reveal an unreleased collaboration with the late rapper. The track, Aoki remembered, features Miller’s vocals and can only be described as “magic.” Aoki is not the first musician to acknowledge that, despite the posthumous release of Miller’s final album Circles—which featured a collaboration with Disclosure’s Guy Lawrence—it’s simply impossible to grasp the full scale of projects Miller worked on throughout his illustrious career. Just last year, for example, an unearthed EP called your shoe...
Steve Aoki is getting ready to drop a song with the biggest DJ in the world. Earlier in the week, Aoki challenged fans to guess his next collaborator by sharing an intensely difficult-to-solve teaser image. For those who somehow couldn’t crack the case, Aoki eventually went ahead and announced that his first single of 2022 is a collaboration with NBA legend and dubstep producer Shaquille O’Neal, affectionally known in electronic music circles as DJ Diesel. Titled “Welcome to the Playhouse,” the upcoming song will seemingly soundtrack Aoki’s outrageous multi-purpose game room, Aoki’s Playhouse. Neither artist has shared a preview ahead of this weekend’s release, but Aoki did leave a hint at what’s to come, noting in a tweet that...

Without a doubt, this will be the ultimate treat for longtime fans of the series. “The best Sonic game is definitely the O.G. Sonic the Hedgehog. That’s the game that started it all for me,” Aoki said in a behind-the-scenes video. “That’s the game I was most obsessed with and you know I remember putting it in the genesis console...
