The art piece captures all of […]

Jihadists kill all male Christians in two Nigerien towns, women flee

Jihadists in Niger Republic have killed all the male Christians in Fantio and Dolbel, two towns in the Tillabéri region in the south west. Survivors of the attack, a group of women, with small children and babies fled to the Dori region of Burkina Faso. AID TO THE CHURCH IN NEED (ACN), which reported the attacks, quoted the women as saying the terrorists attacked the towns twice, killing the men. The two towns were abandoned by the rest of the inhabitants. In Fantio, the jihadists took a statue of the Virgin Mary, liturgical books and musical instruments and burned them. They then desecrated the Blessed Sacrament by throwing the sacred hosts on the ground and finally setting the church on fire. This is the third parish in this part of Niger that has been abandoned due to terrorist attacks ...

Mass grave reopens wounds among indigenous survivors of colonial Canadian school system

The discovery of the remains of 215 children at a former residential school in Canada has reopened wounds for survivors of the system, they said, as the government pledged to spend previously promised money to search for more unmarked graves. The Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc indigenous nation in British Columbia announced last week it had found the remains of 215 children, some as young as three, buried at the site of the Kamloops Indian Residential School, once Canada’s largest such school. Between 1831 and 1996, Canada’s residential school system forcibly separated about 150,000 children from their homes and subjected them to abuse, rape and malnutrition at schools across the country in what the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in 2015 called “cultural genocide”. Run by the government and c...

Tennessee Bill Calls for Dolly Parton Statue at State Capitol That Faces Grand Ole Opry

Americans are more divided than at any time since the Civil War, but one thing we can seemingly all agree on is Dolly Parton. Now, as Associated Press reports, a Tennessee lawmaker has introduced a bill that would erect a statue of the Nashville legend standing on the grounds of the Capital building and facing the Ryman Auditorium — more popularly known as the Grand Ole Opry House. Representative John Mark Windle, a Democrat, introduced the bill last Tuesday. It seeks to celebrate Parton “for all that she has contributed to this state.” Philanthropy is one of the most dominant chords in Parton’s legend. Just recently, her Imagination Library gave away its 150 millionth book, she saved a nine-year-old’s life after pulling her out of a car’s path, showed support for the Black Lives Matter mo...

Chadwick Boseman to Be Memorialized with a Statue in His Hometown

After the news of Chadwick Boseman’s tragic passing, fans quickly launched a petition to replace a Confederate statue in his hometown of Anderson, South Carolina with a new memorial honoring the Black Panther actor. Unfortunately, the Confederate statue can’t be removed without first acquiring a two-thirds vote from state legislature due to South Carolina’s Heritage Act law, but local officials are working on creating the next best thing: a statue of Boseman for permanent placement elsewhere in the city. According to Terence Roberts, the mayor of Anderson, South Carolina, the city is already “enthusiastically working on a permanent public tribute to honor the late actor,” reports TMZ. The statue will include “a mix of sculpture with mural or art elements.” While an initial sketch has not y...

New Set of Collectible Metallica Statues on the Way

Metallica’s steady journey to immortalization will continue with a set of statues honoring the metal legends. High-end collectible maker KnuckleBonz has announced a new series of Metallica figurines slated for release in early 2021. KnuckleBonz has been a go-to company for creating life-like mini statues of notable rock and metal acts, having released a set of Pantera figures last year. Other previous artists represented as part of KnuckleBonz’s “Rock Iconz” series include Marilyn Manson, Lemmy Kilmister, AC/DC’s Angus Young, and more. The Metallica figures are modeled after the band’s latest look, beginning with their 2016 album Hardwired … To Self-Destruct and including their massively successful “WorldWired Tour” in support of the LP. Frontman James Hetfield is depicted singing into a m...

Chris Cornell Statue Vandalized

A statue honoring Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell was recently vandalized. The bronze statue, which was commissioned by Cornell’s family following his death in 2017, currently stands outside the Museum of Pop Culture in Seattle. According to KIRO 7 News, on Thursday an unknown person vandalized the statue by covering it in white paint. In a statement issued Friday, Chris Cornell’s widow, Vicky, said she and her children “are heartbroken to learn of the vandalization of Chris’s statue at the Museum of Pop Culture in Seattle. The statue is not only a work of art but a tribute to Chris, his incomparable musical legacy and everything that he stood for. It represents Chris, who is beloved not only in Seattle, but worldwide.” “In the face of this hate and destruction, we are thankfu...

Colonizer Down: Mayor Lori Lightfoot Pressured To Remove Christopher Columbus Statues In Chicago

Source: DEREK R. HENKLE / Getty Mayor Lori Lightfoot ordered crews to temporarily remove statues of Christopher Columbus from Grant and Arrigo parks in Chicago to thwart hostile confrontations between protestors and police.    Since July 18, protesters tried to forcefully remove a tarp-covered statue in Grant Park, sparking a violent clash with Chicago police. The demonstration initially started at Buckingham Fountain to protest defunding the police, but quickly turned hostile as the crowd grew.  Activists staged a protest in front of Lightfoot’s home overnight. As a result, the shook Mayor buckled to pressure and immediately ordered the removal of the controversial statue in Little Italy hours later.  And just like that – by the cover of darkness – Chicago’s Colum...

GWAR’s Blothar: Oderus Urungus Wouldn’t Have Wanted His Statue Next to a “Row of Losers”

Over the past week or so, a petition to replace a statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee in Richmond, Virginia, with one of late GWAR frontman Oderus Urungus has garnered more than 55,000 signatures. While it would be cool for scumdogs everywhere to see their fallen leader honored, current GWAR singer Blothar the Berserker tells us that Oderus wouldn’t want a statue of himself alongside a “row of losers.” As controversial statues continue to get toppled amid worldwide protests, the petition calls Robert E. Lee a “failed war general that supported a racist cause” while touting Oderus as a “great local leader.” While Oderus may have come from the planet Scumdogia and settled in Antarctica, his alter ego, Dave Brockie (who passed away in 2014), called Richmond his home. Blothar beamed in...

Taylor Swift Calls for Permanent Removal of “Racist” Confederate Statues

The Black Lives Matter protests spurred by George Floyd’s murder aren’t stopping anytime soon — unless, of course, racial equity magically appears overnight. While marching for racial justice and calling for the police to be defunded, protestors have begun taking it upon themselves to dismantle, if not destroy, statues honoring white supremacists from history like Robert E. Lee and John B. Castleman. As it turns out, they have a huge celebrity supporting that cause: Taylor Swift. On Friday, the Grammy-winning pop star released a statement calling for the permanent removal of all Confederate statues in Tennessee. “As a Tennessean, it makes me sick that there are monuments standing in our state that celebrate racist historical figures who did evil things,” Swift wrote on Twitter. “Edward Car...

GWAR Drummer Visits Defaced Robert E. Lee Statue, Exclaims “F**k That Guy”: Watch

A petition to replace a statue of Robert E. Lee in Richmond, Virginia, with one of late GWAR frontman Oderus Urungus has now racked up more than 30,000 signatures. Today (June 12th), drummer JiZMak Da Gusha paid a visit to the statue of the Confederate general, urging onlookers to add their names to the cause. In a video just posted to GWAR’s YouTube page, JiZMak Da Gusha can be seen approaching the crowd at the now-defaced Robert E. Lee statue, which has been completely tagged with graffiti. He greets them with a resounding “GWAR is here!!” “I’m critiquing the artwork,” continues Da Gusha. “It’s looking pretty great right now.” Someone then comments, “I think you’re the one going on top, aren’t you?”, mistaking Da Gusha for the late Oderus. But Da Gusha doesn’t correct him, answering, “Th...

Petition Launched to Replace Statue of Robert E. Lee with GWAR’s Oderus Urungus in Richmond, Virginia

Amid the protests taking place in the wake of George Floyd’s death while in police custody, some long-standing statues are not fairing very well. Now, a new petition calls for a statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee in Richmond, Virginia, to be replaced with one of late GWAR leader Oderus Urungus. In recent days, statues of Christopher Columbus have been toppled and beheaded in Richmond and Boston, respectively, with protesters citing the explorer’s involvement in the genocide of Native Americans. In England, a statue of known slave-trader Edward Colston was destroyed and thrown into a river, and in Belgium, a statue of King Leopold II was removed because of his oppressive rule over the Congo. As Metal Injection reports, onetime GWAR dancer / backup vocalist Slymenstra Hymen (aka Dan...
