Nigerian government warns against recycling of face masks
The Federal Government has warned Nigerians against the continued resort to recycling and sharing of face masks in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, saying such actions would only fuel more infections. The government equally tasked state governments on the need to align their policies with those at the federal level, reminding them that the virus does not respect boundaries or status. It also added that the recent rapid diagnostic test kits procured by the Kogi State Government have a high margin of error and are therefore unreliable. Lagos issues occupational health, safety guidelines
The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the safety of lives of its citizens following the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic. This assertion was made by the Director-General, Lagos State Safety Commission, Mr. Lanre Mojola when issuing additional Occupational Health & Safety Sectoral (OSH) Guidelines on easing of the lockdown of businesses in Lagos State. Lagos State University (LASU) has inaugurated a 21-man Financial Sustainability Committee to evolve strategies to create revenue sources and guarantee the financial sustainability of the institution after the coronavirus pandemic. That same day we were moved to the isolation ward facilities in Sagamu. Ondo discharges five coronavirus patients
Ondo State Government said it has discharged five patients from its Infectious Disease Hospital after they tested negative for COVID-19. The five patients have been receiving treatment for COVID-19 infection. A statement by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Donald Ojogo, said the discharge of the five patients makes it 11 persons the state government has successfully treated for COVID-19. The statement reads: “This is to announce that five patients of the dreaded corona virus have been treated and discharged. “Against this backdrop, only four active cases are currently being monitored in accordance with prescribed globally-accepted protocols at the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH)”. Akwa Ibom bans cattle, goats transported from other states
In some new measures to halt the spread of the coronavirus, Governor Udom Emmanuel has banned cattle, goats, and rams from being brought into Akwa Ibom from other Nigerian states. Emmanuel also announced the shutting down of all livestock markets in the state throughout the month of May. “Livestock sellers are advised to sell off their stock and proceed to shut down,” the Secretary to the Akwa Ibom State Government, Emmanuel Ekuwem, said on Monday in a statement issued in Uyo. “Security agencies have been directed to monitor and ensure full compliance. The COVID-19 Team Leader at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Dr. Yunusa Thairu, has given a rare insight into the treatment regimen for the COVID-19, explaining how a cocktail of an anti-retroviral drug, Aluvia, as well as Zinc and Vitamin C tablets are deployed. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission says it has launched an investigation into the alleged assault of Ms Mnena Ato, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Star Shawarma, Makurdi, Benue State. The Gombe State Government on Monday announced the state’s first coronavirus death. The chairman of the state task force on COVID-19, Idris Mohammed, disclosed this during the daily briefing on the activities of the task force. He said the deceased, a 50-year-old, who had high blood pressure died around 4 p.m. on Sunday from complications related to the COVID-19. According to him, the deceased concealed his health status “but the task force’s attention was called by a neighbour to the deceased who noticed that he was seriously ill upon his return from Bauchi”. Kano cases of coronavirus now 602
Kano State Ministry of Health has confirmed 26 new cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the state. The ministry said in its verified Twitter handle @KNSMOH, that the total confirmed cases of coronavirus recorded in the state stand at 602. It explained that there were 526 active cases, 50 discharged and 26 deaths. “Update as at 11:47 p.m. May 10, 2020; 26 new cases of COVID-19 confirmed. “Total confirmed cases in Kano State are now 602, 18 additional patients discharged and five deaths recorded,” it said.
