A policeman and six members of the Boko Haram terrorist group have been killed in a gunfight in Yobe State. The spokesman for the State Police Command, Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the incident and those killed to newsmen on Saturday, hours after it occurred. He, however, said the police were gathering more information (at the time of this report) to give a definite number of casualties. This followed an evening attack by the insurgents on Babban Gida community – the headquarters of Tarmuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State. The Sokoto State Police Command has confirmed the death of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and an Inspector attached to Gidan Madi Division in Tangaza Local Government Area of the state. The command’s Spokesman, DSP Sadiq Abubakar, told newsmen on Thursday in Sokoto that about 100 unknown gunmen invaded the town and engaged the police in a gun battle. Abubakar said the incident occured at about 1:30 a.m. and two officers, including Mr Aliyu Bello, the DPO, and Muhammad Abdullahi, an Inspector, were shot death by the the armed men dressed in army camouflage. Operatives of the Zamfara State Police Command have arrested Abu Dan-Tabawa, an ally of former Governor of the state, Abdulaziz Yari, after allegedly holding a secret meeting with bandits in Gusau, the state capital. Police in Anambra State have arrested a 41-year-old man, one Ogbonna Nwankwo, for attempting to kill a 29-year-old woman, and cut off her breast at a motel in Ihite town, Orumba South Local Government Area of the state. The Kwara State Police Command, on Saturday, dismissed four officers for misconduct and sanctioned eight others for related offences.
