Carrie Underwood headlined Stagecoach on Saturday night and surprised the crowd with none other than Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose. In between hits like “Jesus, Take the Wheel” and “Cowboy Casanova,” the American Idol winner trotted out the rock star by launching into the band’s classic 1987 single “Sweet Child O’ Mine.” “Welcome to the greatest night of my life,” she said after running through the song’s first verse and chorus solo. “Give it up for Axl Rose!” The duo also performed “Paradise City” during the set, singing, “Take me down to the paradise city/ Where the grass is green and the girls are pretty/ Oh, won’t you please take me home/ Take me down to the paradise city/ Where the grass is green and the girls are pretty/ Take me home.” Both songs were released as singles off the ha...

Goldenvoice has quietly instituted a new rule banning Confederate flags at this year’s Stagecoach, according to the General Resort Rules page on the festival’s official website. The change was first spotted by Palm Springs’ Desert Sun. The rule bans “divisive symbols, including, without limitation, Confederate flags and racially disparaging or other inappropriate imagery/public displays” on Stagecoach’s campground, known as the “The Resort.” Goldenvoice declined to comment when Billboard reached out about the ban. Stagecoach attendees have previously complained in online forums about the display of Confederate flags at the festival. One of them, Gigi Mitchell, started a Change.org petition in 2020 calling for a ban, though it garnered just 57 signatures. The Confederate flag has long had a...
You won’t see masks at this year’s onslaught of social media selfies from Coachella. The organizers of the legendary Indio music and arts festival have revealed the removal of all Covid-related restrictions, including no vaccination or testing requirements. The update arrives four months after the festival’s producer, Goldenvoice, relaxed its vaccination requirements, allowing entry with proof of the jab or a negative test within 72 hours. Considering Coachella’s reputation as a bellwether and the event’s impact on the California economy, the move has the feel of a watershed moment for music festivals. The update aligns with new guidance issued by the California Department of Public Health, which announced that vaccination proof will no longer be req...
Stagecoach has changed its COVID regulations. In a statement on Twitter, the festival announced that it will not be requiring COVID-19 vaccinations, testing, or masking at its 2022 festival. This new policy also extends to Coachella as both festivals are promoted by Goldenvoice and owned by AEG. While Coachella has not formally tweeted a statement, the new no barriers COVID policy is featured on the Health & Safety rules page of their festival website stating “In accordance with local guidelines, there will be no vaccination, testing or masking requirements at Coachella 2022.” Both festivals also warn attendees of the dangers of COVID on their festival websites despite their lack of protection. Though it’s probably at least five months until Coachella reveals its lineup, its sister festival, Stagecoach, unveiled its bill and it’s pretty great. Brandi Carlile, Black Crowes, Margo Price, Yola, Maren Morris, Orville Peck and Hailey Whitters are among the non-headlining highlights, which is great from an alt-country perspective. As for the headliners, those will be a bit more mainstream with Thomas Rhett, Carrie Underwood and Luke Combs closing out each night. Per the Stagecoach norm, there are some great classic artists as well, mainly in the form of Tanya Tucker and the Mavericks. One of our favorites, the Grammy-nominated Ingrid Andress, will feature as well. There are a couple of curveballs, in particular the inclusion of Smokey Robinson on the bill. As for the food, Guy Fieri’s ...
As the concert calendar continues to ramp up, a sure sign that the pandemic is slowing down is the official word that Coachella and Stagecoach are back for 2022. Speaking to Billboard, Goldenvoice boss Paul Tollett said that the fest will return in April 2022, and the news was confirmed on each festival’s respective social media and official website. “We look forward to being in the desert next April with all of our friends,” Tollett said. As usual (at least pre-pandemic), Coachella will take place in mid-to-late April on the weekends of April 15-17 and 22-24. Stagecoach will follow on April 29-May 1. A lineup has yet to be revealed (since when has that dissuaded fans not to go?), but tickets for the event will go on sale on June 4 (this Friday) at 10 a.m. PST. For the 2020 ...
As it stands, Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is still scheduled for April 9th-11th and April 16th-18th, 2021, with other large gatherings—including Stagecoach Music Festival and The Dinah—following suit with spring dates. However, a recent interview with Palm Springs Mayor Christy Holstege reveals the city does not have any plans to host large-scale events until at least the fall of 2021. The interview aired January 13th on Channel Q‘s popular 103.1 FM segment, “The Morning Beat with AJ and Mikalah.” While calling into the show, Holstege discussed current pandemic conditions in Palm Springs, the state of the city’s tourism industry, and high hopes for the future. “We’ve been focused on, you know, making sure that everyone’s wearing ...
