India.Arie Shares Resurfaced Clips of Joe Rogan Using N-Word Amid Spotify Battle

India.Arie is delving further into her ire over Joe Rogan’s Spotify presence by sharing resurfaced footage to social media showing Rogan previously using the N-word. Arie wrote via Instagram on Monday (Feb. 1) that she would be joining Neil Young and other artists in walking away from Spotify by asking for her music and podcasts to be pulled from the popular streaming service. At the time, Arie explained that she finds Rogan “problematic for reasons other than his Covid interviews,” adding, “it’s also his language around race.” Explore See latest videos, charts and news See latest videos, charts and news On Thursday, Arie took to her Instagram Stories Highlights and posted edited footage of YouTube clips showing Rogan using the N-word roughly two dozen times. Spotify Remove Episodes of Joe Rogan’s Podcast Featuring Racial Slurs

Spotify reportedly removed 70 episodes of The Joe Rogan Experience on Friday evening, according to CNET. The episodes in question all pre-date 2019 and are unrelated to Rogan’s ongoing controversy over COVID-19 misinformation. Rather, the removal of at least some of these episodes was apparently due to racist or other derogatory language. Earlier on Friday, the Grammy Award-winning singer India.Arie highlighted 24 instances in which Rogan used the N-word during episodes of his podcast. Advertisement Related Video “He shouldn’t even be uttering the word. Don’t even say it, under any context. Don’t say it. That’s where I stand. I have always stood there,” said Arie, who earlier in the week pulled her music from Spotify, citing Rogan’s “language around race.” According to the official subredd...

Spotify CEO Defends Handling of Joe Rogan COVID Controversy

Spotify CEO Daniel Ek defended how the streaming service has chosen to handle the scandal swirling around Joe Rogan and his podcast The Joe Rogan Experience, which is hosted exclusively on the platform. “I think the important part here is that we don’t change our policies based on one creator nor do we change it based on any media cycle, or calls from anyone else,” Ek said during an earnings call on Wednesday, according to reporting by the New York Times. “Our policies have been carefully written with the input from numbers of internal and external experts in this space. And I do believe they’re right for our platform. And while Joe has a massive audience — he is actually the number one podcast in more than 90 markets — he also has to abide by those policies.” The fact that Rogan’s po...

David Crosby and Stephen Stills Join Neil Young and Graham Nash in Pulling Music from Spotify

David Crosby, Stephen Stills, Graham Nash, and Neil Young haven’t always liked each other, but the songwriters of CSNY seem to have set that aside because they dislike Spotify even more. After Young pulled his music from the streaming giant last week over concerns about COVID-19 misinformation on Joe Rogan’s podcast, Nash followed suit, and now Crosby, Stills, and Nash have shared a joint statement announcing that they plan to remove their music. “We support Neil and we agree with him that there is dangerous disinformation being aired on Spotify’s Joe Rogan podcast,” the statement reads. “While we always value alternate points of view, knowingly spreading disinformation during this global pandemic has deadly consequences. Until real action is taken to show that a concern for humanity must ...

Neil Young Vs. Joe Rogan and Spotify: The Rock, David Crosby, Joni Mitchell, and More Draw Battle Lines

If you’ve somehow avoided hearing about it thus far — and if so, we are very jealous — Joe Rogan’s controversial inclinations have come to a head in the past few days. The comedian, whose The Joe Rogan Experience is Spotify’s top-streamed exclusive podcast, has prompted a fleet of musicians to pull their music from the platform, most notably Neil Young. Other musicians have since followed Young’s lead, citing Rogan’s continuous misinformation regarding COVID-19 (among countless other eyebrow-raising remarks). Rogan posted a video in response to the controversy, promising he’d invite “more experts with differing opinions right after [he has] the controversial ones,” and that he would “do [his] best to make sure [he’s] researched these topics.” A self-proclaimed fan of Young, Rogan also...

Failure Pull Music from Spotify, Citing Business Model and Joe Rogan Controversy

Failure are the latest band to pull their music from Spotify, citing the platform’s business model and the spread of COVID vaccine misinformation. The cult alternative rockers join a growing number of other artists who’ve followed Neil Young’s lead and removed their music from the streaming service. Young and others have objected to Spotify hosting Joe Rogan’s podcast, which has been criticized for proliferating misinformation and falsities about COVID vaccines. Failure released a lengthy statement on Facebook decrying Spotify’s response to the Rogan controversy and the company’s business model in general: “Failure have wrestled with the question of Spotify and whether to have our newest music, which we control, on the platform. Until now, our ambivalence about Spotify has been based on th...

Graham Nash Pulls Music from Spotify: “I Completely Agree with and Support My Friend Neil”

Graham Nash has joined his longtime friend and bandmate, Neil Young, in pulling his music from Spotify. “Having heard the Covid disinformation spread by Joe Rogan on Spotify, I completely agree with and support my friend Neil Young and I am requesting that my solo recordings be removed from the service,” Nash said in a statement released on Tuesday. “There is a difference between being open to varying viewpoints on a matter and knowingly spreading false information which some 270 medical professionals have derided as not only false but dangerous,” Nash continued. “Likewise, there is a difference between misinformation, in which one is unaware that what is being said is false, versus disinformation which is knowingly false and intended to mislead and sway public opinion.” Advertisement Rela...

Joe Rogan Comments On Artists Ditching Spotify, Apologizes To DSP

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: LIONEL BONAVENTURE / Getty Joe Rogan attracts plenty of attention not only due to the massive popularity of his podcast but also his assumed stances against the handling of COVID-19 in the mainstream. However, his presence or Spotify has been somewhat disruptive to the business and Rogan took time to apologize to the DSP as a result. Rogan, who hosts the popular The Joe Rogan Experience, entered into an exclusive $100 million deal with the audio streaming service as part of its slate of original podcast programming. Rogan built an audience based on candid conversations and the occasional controversial guests, and part of that is why singer Neil Young opted to remove his entire catalog from Spotify. Rivers Cuomo has sallied forth into the streaming wars. As Spotify sputters after its spat with Neil Young, losing $4 billion in market value in the last week, Cuomo is capitalizing to pitch a streaming app of his own, Weezify. “Tired of Spotify?” he wrote on Twitter on Sunday, January 30th. “Come on over to Weezify.” Available on Apple and through the Google Play store, the app is described as a “Spotify-like player for all of Rivers Cuomo’s demos (1975-2017).
