SpongeBob SquarePants Episodes Removed From Paramount+ for Inappropriate Plotlines

Two episodes of SpongeBob SquarePants have been removed from Paramount+ for content that Nickelodeon has deemed inappropriate. One is an episode about a “panty raid” involving Mr. Krabs, and another is about a dangerous flu outbreak that involves a quarantine scenario. The beloved kids cartoon is one of the big-ticket items on the new streaming service that launched earlier this month, but apparently the catalog that they’re framing as comprehensive is missing a couple items. The more glaring of the two is a notable season three episode in which Mr. Krabs tries to reignite his youthful spark by spending an evening with SpongeBob and Patrick Star. After a few boring activities that feel more like chores than fun to the middle-age restaurant owner, the boys suggest a “panty raid”: ...

The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge On the Run Is a Total Franchise Play: Review

The Pitch: It’s another SpongeBob movie—what do you need, a road map? Actually, maybe: This newest adventure is an underwater road trip, with SpongeBob (Tom Kenny) and his starfish pal Patrick (Bill Faggerbake) on a mission to save Gary, SpongeBob’s beloved pet snail, who’s being used as part of a skincare regimen for King Poseidon (Matt Berry). This snailnapping was engineered by the scheming Plankton (Mr. Lawrence), who wants SpongeBob to stop (inadvertently) interfering with his plans to ruin the Krusty Krab, the restaurant where SpongeBob happily toils away. There are also two different robot assistants, one amusingly voiced by Awkafina. A Brand New Sponge: This is the third SpongeBob film, following 2004’s The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie and 2015’s The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of W...

David Hasselhoff Auctioning Off Replica of Himself from SpongeBob Movie

David Hasselhoff made waves in Baywatch with his six-pack abs, but those abdominals have never been harder than when they were molded into a 14-foot statue for 2004’s The SpongeBob Squarepants Movie. Now that pop culture marvel can be yours as part of The Hoff Auction, in which the 68-year-old icon attempts to turn his expansive collection of film and TV merchandise into an even more expansive pile of cash. Hasselhoff made a memorable appearance in The SpongeBob Movie as himself, helping a landlocked SpongeBob and Patrick return to Bikini Bottom. The cartoon duo used The Hoff as a boat, and it was during this aquatic chase that the replica got its screen time. Afterwards the simulacrum, dubbed “Big Dave,” landed in Hasselhoff’s collection. On January 4th, Hasselhoff ann...

The CGI-animated film will then be available exclusively on CBS All Access beginning in early 2021 alongside all prior TV seasons of the Nickelodeon series. In Sponge on the Run, SpongeBob and Patrick embark on a rescue mission to save Gary, who has been “snailnapped” by Poseidon. Along the way, they encounter Keanu Reeves (!) playing a Sage named… Sage, who’s also a tumbleweed, and navigate the temptations of Atlantis City. Snoop Dogg, Awkwafina, and Reggie Watts also have cameos in the film. Nickelodeon Confirms SpongeBob is a Member of the LGBTQ+ Community

Nickelodeon broke the Internet on Saturday by confirming that SpongeBob Squarepants is a member of the LGBTQ+ community. “Celebrating #Pride with the LGBTQ+ community and their allies this month and every month,” Nickelodeon tweeted on Saturday. The caption was accompanied by photos of the Avatar character Korra, who identifies as Queer, and actor Michael D. Cohen, who is Transgender (via Out). Though Nickelodeon did not outright confirm SpongeBob’s sexuality, the implication is pretty clear. It’s worth noting, as Out points out, that SpongeBob creator Stephen Hillenburg previously said the characters on his show are asexual. As asexual people are considered part of the LGBTQ+ community, that may explain why SpongeBob was included in Nickelodeon’s Pride tweet. Or, he’s gay. Who c...
