Abuja chamber welcomes FCT tax harmonisation

Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) has welcomed the plan by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Alhaji Muhammad Bello to harmonise tax policies within the territory in order end multiple taxations on by businesses in the territory. FRSC impounds 35 vehicles for not having speed limit devices

The Lagos State Sector Commander of the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr Olusegun Ogungbemide, said that 35 commercial motorists had their vehicles impounded on Monday in Lagos for not installing speed limit devices in them. Ogungbemide made the disclosure in an interview with newsmen after the corps sensitized motorists plying the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on the need to install “speed governors” in their vehicles. He said the operation was in line with the directive of the Corps Marshal, Dr Boboye Oyeyemi, who had noticed an increase in the number of fatalities during the festive period. “We are not going to release those vehicles even after the payment of fines by their owners until they install speed limit devices in them,” he said. Yuletide: FRSC decries violations of coronavirus protocols, speed by motorists

Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has decried high level of speed and COVID-19 violations by motorists across the country during the yuletide. Zonal Commanding Officer RS9, Enugu, Mr Owoimaha Odoma, disclosed this to newsmen on Friday in Owerri. He said the issue became worrisome as over speeding often led to road crashes, while violation of COVID-19 protocol by motorists could also escalate the dreaded virus in various communities. Nigerian government posts 35 firefighters to man new Treasury House substation

The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs Zainab Ahmed, on Wednesday commissioned a fire substation built for the Treasury House which houses the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation. Speaking at the event, the Minister extolled the Accountant-General of the Federation, Mr Idris Ahmed, for building the facility which will help battle fire incidents in the building and its environs. Imo governor orders workers to stay home over spike in coronavirus

Imo state governor, Hope Uzodimma, yesterday ordered the workers in the state, to stay home from Monday next week till further notice, ahead of the festive period. Europe to pay less than US for Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine

The European Union has struck a deal to initially pay less for Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine candidate than the United States, an EU official told Reuters News Agency as the bloc announced on Wednesday it had secured an agreement for up to 300 million doses. The experimental drug, developed in conjunction with Germany’s BioNTech, is the frontrunner in a global race to produce a vaccine, with interim data released on Monday showing it was more than 90 percent effective at protecting people from COVID-19 in a large-scale clinical trial. ICPC indicts 88 MDAs for procurement act violations

File Photo The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has indicted 88 Ministries, Departments and Agencies for violating the provisions of the Public Procurement Act, 2007 in the last three years. The anti-graft agency also said 53 MDAs were guilty of tax default, noting that they had been on the Federal Inland Revenue Service tax defaulters list for three years. It classified 132 MDAs that did not respond to its assessment as ‘corruption high-risk MDAs’ stressing that they “will be treated as such.” This was contained in the ICPC Ethics and Compliance Scorecard of Federal MDAs 2020 made available to newsmen on Tuesday.
