AGF: Ohanaeze legal monitoring group on Nnamdi Kanu not necessary

The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, has said the legal team formed by the umbrella group for Igbo people, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, to monitor proceedings of the trial of leader of the prescribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, was not necessary. He, however, welcomed the Ohanaeze team, saying it was in line with the doctrine of the right of fair hearing rooted in Section 36 of the 1999 Constitution. Recall that the separatist leader was arrested in June 2021 outside the country. Kanu is facing charges bordering on treasonable felony instituted against him at the court in response to years of campaign for the independent Republic of Biafra through IPOB. The legal team of the Ndigbo Group has met with the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, to monitor the proceedings relating to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu. This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Special Assistant on Media and Public Relations to the Office of the AGF, Jibrilu Gwandu. Lago governor appoints new LASPPPA chief

Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has appointed Kehinde Osinaike as the General Manager of the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA). Osinaike’s appointment contained in a letter LGS/HOS/178/Vol.X/30 issued on Friday by the Head of Service, Mr Hakeem Muri-Okunola, takes immediate effect. Muri-Okunola said the appointment was in cognisance of his impressive track records. According to him, Sonaike succeeds the former General Manager of the authority, Funmi Osifuye, upon retirement. FAO reiterates support to Nigerian government’s efforts to tackle food insecurity

The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) has reiterated its commitment to support the Federal Government‘s efforts to ensure food sufficiency. FAO Country Representative, Fred Kafeero, said this at the 44th meeting of the National Council on Agriculture and Rural Development (NCARD) in Abuja on Thursday. Ekiti government summons monarchs over killings in community

The Ekiti State Government on Friday summoned the Ogoga of Ikere, Oba Adejimi Adu and the Olukere, Oba Ganiyu Obasoyin over the cult-related killings in Ikere town in Ikere Local Government Area of the state. It would be recalled that six persons were reported killed last month in a rival cult clash in the town. The Council authority on Wednesday imposed 6pm to 6am curfew following the killings of two persons on Tuesday by suspected cultists in the town. Ebonyi commissioner escapes gunmen attack

The Ebonyi State Commissioner for Infrastructure Development, Engr. Fidelis Nweze, narrowly escaped gun attack on Tuesday as he abandoned his car and ran into the bush leaving his SUV at the mercy of gunmen who shot sporadically in all directions. The incident happened at the site of a proposed international airport in the State. The gunmen were feared to have targeted the State Governor, Dave Umahi who was scheduled for an inspection visit to the airport. PAP sets JAMB as criteria for ex-agitators to get scholarship

The Presidential Amnesty Programme, PAP, has explained that its new policy mandated all ex-agitators desiring to benefit from its scholarship scheme to first take the examination organised by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB. Amnesty office said the new policy was designed to eliminate mediocrity in the programme, adding that the scheme was aimed at transforming ex-agitators into well-educated entrepreneurs and employable citizens.
