Donald Glover is finally fulfilling his Spider-Man dreams by starring in a new film about [checks notes] the Hypno-Hustler. Yes, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor/writer/director/musician has signed on to star in and producer a movie centered around the D-list Spidey villain. The latest addition to Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters, the project is to be penned by Myles Murphy, son of the great Eddie Murphy. For someone who had a long-public desire to play the Web-Slinger himself, settling for such an obscure character sure seems like a strange move. Created in 1978, Hypno-Hustler’s real name is Antoine Delsoin, the frontman of a disco band called Mercy Killers. With his hypnotic guitar, he can hypnotize his robbery victims for an easy crime. He also has knockout gas an...
MGM+ and Prime Video have inked a new deal to produce a new suite of television shows based on Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. The first series, Silk: Spider Society, comes from showrunner Angela Kang and centers on the superhero Silk. Silk is the alias of Cindy Moon, a Korean American woman who was bit by the same spider that bit Peter Parker. The character was created by Dan Slott and Humberto Ramo and first appeared in a 2014 Marvel comic. Silk: Spider Society serves as a bit of the superhero’s origin story, following Moon as she escapes imprisonment and searches for her missing family before she officially becomes Silk. Kang, who currently serves as showrunner of The Walking Dead, signed a multi-year deal to create television for Amazon Studios. On Silk: Spider Society, ...
Adam Scott has joined Sony’s upcoming Marvel movie Madame Web, according to reporting by Deadline. The upcoming superhero film is already set to star Dakota Johnson as the titular character who, according to Marvel lore, is a mutant possessing psychic powers such as telepathy, clairvoyance, and astral projection, all while being hooked up to a life support system resembling a spider’s web. (As the film is part of Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters and not directly tied to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s likely the mutant element of the character will be rewritten.) Other confirmed cast members include Sydney Sweeney, Emma Roberts, Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced, and Tahar Rahim, while S.J. Clarkson is set to direct. No stranger to Marvel properties, Clarkson previously he...
Sony is continuing to make use of its Universe of Marvel Characters. According to Deadline, the studio has cast Fred Hechinger as Chameleon in the upcoming Kraven the Hunter. The White Lotus breakout will star alongside Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the title role, as well as Russell Crowe in an undisclosed role. Word is that much of the Kraven cast will be made up of the classic Spider-Man villain’s family (with Crowe likely playing his father), and that fits with Hechinger joining as Chameleon. In the comics, Chameleon is Dmitri Smerdyakov, Kraven’s half-brother. He’s a master of disguise and impressions, skills that allow him to assume the identity of nearly anyone he encounters. Some versions of the character have depicted him with scientifically enhanced powers and technology...
Russell Crowe has scored another Marvel movie. The New Zealand-born actor is set to join Aaron Taylor-Johnson in Kraven the Hunter, Sony’s upcoming film about the Spider-Man villain. While we know Taylor-Johnson will play Kraven, it’s unclear what role Crowe has in Kraven the Hunter, slated to arrive January 13th, 2023. According to The Hollywood Reporter, however, Kraven’s family members are said to take up much of the cast. J.C. Chandor is directing the film from a screenplay by Art Marcum, Matt Holloway, and Richard Wenk, while Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing. Kraven the Hunter arrives as part of the Sony Universe of Marvel Characters, which makes sense given Sony controls the film rights to Spider-Man and other related characters. After taking on Eddie ...
Sony is looking to wrap up Dakota Johnson as the star of its first female-led Spider-Man universe adventure, Madame Web. The project was first announced back in 2019, with Morbius writers Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless working on the screenplay. Now, Deadline reports that Johnson is in final talks to lead the picture, with S.J. Clarkson (Marvel’s Jessica Jones, The Defenders) onboard as director. Created in 1980 by writer Denny O’Neil and artist John Romita Jr., Madame Web is a mutant with incredible psychic and clairvoyant capabilities. (Considering Marvel now owns mutants in their entirety again, it’s likely the character’s origins will be altered for the movie.) Johnson’s casting hints her general appearance will also be changed, as she’s most often depicted as an el...

It looks like the web of silver screen spider-people is about to get a little larger. Olivia Wilde has reportedly signed on to direct and develop a secret Marvel project for Sony, and rumors have it that it’s a Spider-Woman movie. While Sony hasn’t confirmed exactly what the project is, Wilde did hint at a spider-related character with a simple tweeted emoji. Deadline reports that Katie Silberman, who wrote Wilde’s breakout directorial debut Booksmart, is penning the script. Amy Pascal, who has long spearheaded Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters, is producing alongside executive producer Rachel O’Connor. Deadline also has it that this is a “completely revamped” version of Spider-Woman, which means it probably won’t be a Gwen Stacy spin-off from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Of cours...
