Pharrell Williams will not be returning his music festival Something in the Water to his hometown of Virginia Beach in 2022, citing the city’s “toxic energy” and the March police killing of his 25-year-old cousin Donovan Lynch. The festival launched in 2019, but the 2020 and 2021 editions were cancelled due to COVID-19. The acclaimed producer cites the “toxic energy” in the city as why he is choosing not to continue putting on the festival next year, or maybe ever again. According to WAVY, Williams is upset with the leadership of the city, and has nixed the festival’s return for 2022.
