Ebonyi relaxes restrictions on worship centres, drinking parlours, schools
Following reduction in the number of COVID-19 cases Ebonyi state government has relaxed restrictions on events and gathering of persons in the state. The state government directed that all private and public schools, tertiary institutions could reopen on 5th of October 2020. A press statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Barr. Uchenna Orji, stated that “All restrictions in respect of movement order on public burials/ wake keeps, weddings, conferences, meetings, festivals, religious services/gatherings, etc are hereby lifted”. “That all closures of public places such as event centres, bars, places of worship, educational institutions, public parks, night clubs, cinemas, viewing centres and other such public places are hereby lifted”, he added. ASUU: Reopening of universities a pandora box to another wave of virus
The Academic Staff Union of Universities, (ASUU), Nsukka Zone on Friday warned that plans to reopen universities now are a Pandora box to the second wave of COVID-19. The Zonal Coordinator, Dr Igbana Ajir, who stated this during a press conference held at Chateau De Victoria Hotel, Makurdi also debunked the belief in some quarters that ASUU embarked on strike as a result of Integrated Payroll and Personal Information. Dr Ajir said that following the guidelines established by the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19, the government should address adequate hostel accommodation, availability of physical facilities to enable social distancing in large and crowded classrooms, running water, steady source of power, testing and isolation centres. Behemoth Announce Immersive In Absentia Dei Livestream Concert
Behemoth have announced a new immersive livestream event, “In Absentia Dei”. The black metal auteurs will broadcast the concert live from an undisclosed Polish church on September 5th, with special guests Imperial Triumphant performing from New York City. The show will stream in 4K high-definition with eight different camera angles to choose from — as well as a “Director’s Cut” option, ostensibly edited from the various camera angles. The Acting Secretary of the FCT Health and Human Services Secretariat, Dr Mohammed Kawu, has been discharged from the Asokoro District Hospital, Abuja, where he has been receiving treatment for COVID 19. Kawu disclosed this in a statement he personally signed and made available to journalists in Abuja on Saturday moments after he was declared free of the Coronavirus. It would be recalled that the Acting Secretary had announced that he and some members of his family had contracted the disease about two weeks ago. Outdoor Concerts Are Allowed to Return in the UK
The UK has a nationalized health care system, and the US has a president who makes fun of face masks, and so it’s no surprise that England was faster at getting its coronavirus crisis under control. With new cases decreasing since mid-May, and total cases now under 30,000, the UK government is allowing outdoor concerts to resume starting this weekend — as long as venues maintain “a limited and socially distanced audience.” As Kerrang reports, the announcement was made by Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden.
