“Life does speak to you in whispers but if you don’t listen it can become an earth quake,” Skrillex wrote in a poignant Instagram post previewing new music. The upcoming track, a collaboration between PinkPantheress and Willow which features additional production from Mura Masa, was first teased on PinkPantheress’ TikTok over the weekend. The singer’s caption called the song a dream collaboration years in the making, and the clip has since garnered over two million views. In the brief preview, PinkPantheress’ playful hook is contrasted by Willow, who interjects with vocals crying out, “Now my life’s a downward spiral…” Despite the magnitude of the collab—and the buzz surrounding it already—Skrillex kept his announcement down ...
In the music industry, there’s seemingly only a few degrees of separation between Skrillex and any given hit. One such track on The Weeknd‘s new Dawn FM album stands as a prime example. The story of how Bruce Johnston of The Beach Boys came to be involved with the project is something of a butterfly effect—with Skrillex playing a pivotal role. Johnston, now 79, tells the Los Angeles Times that he was out surfing at Zuma Beach and decided to stop in at the nearby Shangri-La Studios afterwards. There, the legendary musician met Skrillex, who was working with multi-Platinum producer Rex Kudo and renowned guitarist Heavy Mellow at the time. Johnston explains that Skrillex and the artists in his orbit at Shangri-La have an unrelenting work ethic, likening them to “the Wr...

2021 was a monumental year for house music, and J Balvin and Skrillex are tying a bow on it by dropping one of the genre’s most coveted tracks. The Prince of Reggaeton recently unveiled the deluxe version of JOSE, his sixth studio album, and tucked at the bottom of the tracklist are three monster remixes, including one from Chris Lorenzo. Lorenzo is your favorite producer’s favorite producer. Long revered as one of the most gifted sound designers in house music, he has dropped yet another masterstroke. While the original “In Da Getto” dominated contemporary radio, Lorenzo’s riveting remix did the same on the festival circuit. Prior to its release on streaming platforms, the track was rinsed by the electronic music scene’s biggest artists, such...

The nomination has simultaneously thrust numerous dance music artists into the limelight, including one of the genre’s most recognizable voices, HALIENE, who lent her talents to “In My Mind.” ILLENIUM’...
It looks like Dog Blood are on the comeback trail. Considering it’s been nearly a decade since Skrillex and Boys Noize debuted their collaborative musical alias, it’s fair to wonder if they plan to reemerge after a two-year-plus hiatus to celebrate their 10-year anniversary in 2022. And if the latter’s recent Reddit AMA (“ask me anything”) session is any indication, new music may arrive sooner than fans anticipated. When a fan asked if Dog Blood’s long-awaited remix of Boys Noize’s single “Midnight” will ever be released, the analog virtuoso said the track will likely never escape from his hard drive. But it’s the tail-end of his response that perked the ears of the electronic music community. “i doubt it — b...

After a relatively quiet 2020, LA-based DJ and hardstyle producer Softest Hard is back to touring. She’s no stranger to playing international festivals, having toured all over Asia and opening for Skrillex back in 2019. But her first festival performance in Canada was for the return of Vancouver’s beloved two-day music festival, FVDED In The Park, and EDM.com caught up with her after a heart-pounding set. During last night’s massive performance in Brooklyn, Skrillex ignited the nostalgia machine. In one of the concert’s many dreamlike moments, the electronic music virtuoso turned back the clock to 2011, when he released his seminal remix of Benny Benassi‘s “Cinema.” With its mighty bass and vocals that galvanize fans into screaming at the top of their lungs, the track has grown to be a generational anthem for dubstep fans. What made the moment so surreal, however, wasn’t the record itself, but who played it. Skrillex brought out Benassi himself to drop the song live before a wild crowd, taking a moment to thank the Italian dance music icon. “This man changed my life with this song,” Skrillex gushed. Louis The Child have showcased their most mature sounds to date on Euphoria EP. The Chicago native duo, who have made their name on youthful future-pop tracks with easily digested singalong lyrics such as “Better Not,” “Weekend” and more, didn’t hesitate to think outside the box. From a production standpoint, it’s easily the duo’s most innovative effort since their start. On the whole, Euphoria is an EP of great contrast. At the core of it, Louis The Child’s dedication to lush melodic soundscapes remains unwavering, but with a heavy dose of pumping kicks and biting bass added to the mix. Hearing the duo in this context makes everything feel as new and exciting as when we first listened to them. Recommended Articles This contrast of expe...
