HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Jon Kopaloff / Getty Gymnast Simone Biles has racked up a lengthy list of accomplishments in her career, and now she can add being recognized as Athlete of The Year by Time Magazine to that resume. On Thursday (December 9th), the magazine announced that Biles would be their 2021 Athlete of the Year. The most decorated athlete in the history of gymnastics was awarded the honor by uplifting the subject of mental health to the forefront of society. This was sparked by her decision to withdraw from events at the Tokyo Olympics held this summer despite being the heavy favorite to win, which was spurred by her experiencing the “twisties” during the team portion of the competition. After understandably taking a break from competition after she revealed she was battling the “twisties,” a term coined by gymnasts to describe when they can’t judge where they are while in the air that could result in awkward landing, which could lead to a serious injury, the world’s greatest gymnast is back. USA Gymnastics confirmed the decorated gymnasts returned in a tweet stating, “We are so excited to confirm that you will see two U.S. athletes in the balance beam final tomorrow – Suni Lee AND Simone Biles!! Can’t wait to watch you both!” Biles has been cheering on the USA Gymnastics team f...

The peanut gallery will undoubtedly have much more to say after Biles stepped down from participating in the individual all-around gymnastics finals at the Tokyo Olympics but most are siding with the Texas native’s decision to prioritize her mental health. Biles found herself faced with immense pressure as she and the rest of the Team USA women’s gymnastics team entered the games with high expectations of dominating their events. While TEAM USA did notch a silver medal in the team competition, Biles stepped down from the events after exhibit...

She scored nearly five more points than the runner-up Sunisa Lee.  “I feel like I did try to enjoy it because it could be one of my last championships that I’ll attend,” Biles told Olympics.com. “But it’s also the road to Tokyo, and after this we have tria...
